How are my chances?

Thanks

Forgot to add.

Essays:Personal Statement is about baseball and how, behind the trivial veneer, it produces lessons of courage and perseverance. One story about my fear of the ball, and how I got over it. The other is about how I wasn’t a good enough baseball player to continue playing. Thus, I tried a new way to participate through field maintenance. It proved to be a successful venture. People who read the essay felt it was witty and representative of myself.

Supplemental: I wrote on option three. I talked about MUN, how I want to be a diplomat, and my fervent curiosity of Middle Eastern relations.

Sounds like a better chance than me, if that makes you feel any better ;)

ECs etc look decent though the AP scores are not exceptional. Any predicted IB grades?

I couldn’t really predict, but I would assume my IB scores would be comparative to my AP scores. I would assume that I would perform better on the IB German test. I have heard it is easier than the AP German test. Would my AP scores be my weak point?

I also have an additional letter of recommendation from the head football coach. We have a very successful football team. In the letter he states how much I worked, my passion, and he even states that I was the best film manager he has ever had. I thought it was a pretty good letter, so I sent that as well.

AP scores don’t have much of an influence at all in college admissions. You are a highly competitive applicant to any school in the country, though understand that Amherst’s 15% admission rate means that a good number of otherwise qualified candidates will be cut.

submit only 5s and 4s for aps(if possible)
i’d say 50 50 chance

chance me back please

Summa is correct. AP scores mean little. You’re competitive, which is all you can ask for.

35 Hours a week filming football games and practices. I worked forty weeks a year here. I worked monday through friday (game day), staying at school till 7. On Fridays, I stayed at school till 2 A.M. I woke up on Saturday to continue working for the team. I did this for two years. Before that, I played for two years.

What does this even mean, if your school allowed you to stay there until 2 A.M. that is like illegal haha. Idk it just sounds weird

It’s not illegal. I volunteered. This is my big EC. It isn’t a job, but the requirements were very demanding. I enjoyed the experience (even though it may have hurt my G.P.A.). I wasn’t good enough to play football, but I found another way to contribute to the team. I had permission from the administration and I was essentially considered a coach… I became very close to the Head Coach as my office was in our football office. Granted, it is a quirky job, but it is a legitimate activity. I have a letter of recommendation to back up my claim.

I think you look better than 50%. You have great ACTs, and your SAT2s in different areas above 700 put you in the top tier of applicants. Your ECs aren’t trivial, and again, show your varied and rich interests. Good luck, because that’s the only other thing you need! Be sure to show Amherst all the love you can!

you chances seem good…but UW GPA isn’t too great. Your EC’s seem to show specific interests, but it would have been nice if you had “liberal” EC’s. Your scores are fine–they fit (not something that would overly impress the ppl, but not one to question your abilities). I’d say more than 50%

Good luck to you…we’re all in the same boat :P

You wrote an essay about being bad at baseball and how you “overcame” your inability to play the sport by doing field maintenance. And your main extracurricular activity is filming football players. That is not really a legitimate activity. It just sounds like you were desperate to be a part of something you just aren’t good at. Think about all the better things you could have done with your time instead of filming a bunch of man boys run after a brown oblong ball. I’m not saying you don’t have a chance, as your test scores and grades are decent. But wow. Playing clean up duty for the baseball team and filming football are not exactly what Amherst would be looking for. Just mho.

One more question… How is it that you founded three clubs and became VICE president of all of them. Shouldn’t you be the president if you founded them…?

^ That’s a little too harsh. Just saying…

Oh my god!!! I’m so sorry. My idiot friend was at my house and must have got on here. He was just messing around and that was NOT me. That stuff actually sounds like fun and hard work. Please don’t take any of that seriously. Really, really sorry.

Haha. It’s quite alright. No offense taken. Hopefully we are all accepted.

Okay good. I don’t want to make any bad impressions with, hopefully, my future classmates. :)

Anyone else care to predict? Update: My senior first term grades were my best yet. I finished with a 5.02 weighted. It brought my unweighted cumulative G.P.A. to a 3.7 (if you exclude freshman year). I’ve been told Amherst does not consider freshman grades. Do they consider Senior Year midyear grades? Additionally, my rank shot up to about 25/735=3.4%

you look good, but your GPA remains a definite weakness. If you don’t get in, I’d wager that it’s in large part because of that. Still, your ECs are very good, your ACT score is good, and your essay topics sound intriguing. I’d agree that it’s about 50/50. Of course, as I’m sure you realize, none of us commenting actually know anything…
