Hello, I am a freshman and I am looking to transfer. I am looking at Tufts and Cornell right now, but am researching for other potential top schools that I could get into. I didn't do very well in high school, but I believe I have stepped up for college. I assume I will get similar grades my second semester of college, which is when I'll be transfering(During the summer I assume? I don't know much about it)

HS stats:
3.3-3.5 GPA UW
1790 SAT(I'm considering retaking)
EC's:
Big Brother Big Sister
Golf Team
Chess Club

College stats:
Pre-Med Math Major
3.92 GPA
EC's:
Vice president of cluster of dorms
Ski club

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I’m having trouble finding the edit button, but I’m also looking at University of Rochester

Your college GPA is excellent along with extracurricular activities. However you have only spent 1 semester in college (courses taken during freshmen year usually tend to be easier) so the schools you are applying to will weigh your high school record and SAT scores alot. I am not saying that your scores are horrible but I think you should spend at least 1 more semester and then apply. By doing this you will have at least 30 credits (assuming you a re a full-time student) and colleges can see that you are capable of handling college level work.

It does not hurt to apply now because I think you still have a good chance at tufts, rochester and even cornell but I think it is wise to postpone your transferring process.

I have just finished 3 semesters and I have been getting offers from RIT, Cornell, Tulane, and others!

I wasn’t aware I could transfer after just 1 semester! Is it too late to do that? My original plan was to stay one more semester, applying after the spring semester.

Like you said, is it harmless to apply now? Do you only get one chance? I’m a little clueless when it comes to transferring :P
