<p>I doubt anyone means offense to you or your family by offering the advice to mix in a financial safety. We adults have a collective paranoia about college costs these days - costs which have risen disproportionate to income. Also, people contiinue to lose their jobs unexpectedly. (Not trying to scare you; just wanted to offer my opinion that this advice is probably well-intentioned, and not an attempt to insult you.) Really, I would give the financial safety advice to any high school junior searching for college suggestions.</p>
<p>I’ve never been to the African American Students section of CC before. I was in another section and was simply astonished by a post. Out of curiosity, I did a search for this person’s other posts and ended up in this thread, where he (?) has offered some equally unfortunate comments. Just ignore him and pay attention to the answers that are helpful.</p>
