GPA: 3.64 Unweighted, my school doesn't weight but I've taken 4 APs and a couple honors.
SAT: 2060

ECs: Average, I've been involved in sports and clubs but no leadership, 200 hours of community service, band, etc.

Just sent in my app, curious about my chances. I've heard that USC's applicant pool has doubled in the past five years, so it's obviously very competitive to get in. Do I have a chance or should I look to some other schools I've already gotten into (like USD)?

you’re right there.
Its really hard to judge these days.
your gpa is a little on the low side. but your sat is not bad. around 60% i would guess
I’d label it as a match/slight reach depending on your recs and essays.
Did you take the ACT it may help as well?
All the best to you

You look like you stand a good shot for admissions. The only thing that could hold you back like MIT said is your GPA.

USC admissions gets more and more competitive every year, as a school on the rise. Over the last decade it’s averaged an increase of just about 2 spots a year in US News rankings which is unheard of. Now, there’s many students, myself included, who would rather go to USC over HYPSM despite having HYPSM-type stats, since we don’t qualify for need based aid and USC gives amazing merit awards.

Good luck, hopefully we’ll both get in and meet up next year. Fight On!

slightly subpar stats and “average” ECs will only work with uber essays and recs, as you mentioned, USC is becoming increasingly competitive - maybe join the commonapp next year and that will grow the applicant fool even faster.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It’s crazy how fast things have changed at USC. I know somebody that graduated from USC 10 years ago, and she thought I would be a shoe-in with my stats. She said all her friends that wanted to go and had money got in. Now, with the interest of the football team among other things, USC seems to be right there with Berkeley and UCLA academically.

My major is business, so I think that puts me in consideration for a direct admit to Marshall? Can anyone clarify?

From what I can remember, you will first receive direct admit consideration to Marshall. It won’t, however, increase or decrease your chances. I assume Marshall would have a higher than average stat pool, so there’d be stiffer competition. If you don’t make it into Marshall you’ll be considered for general admission into USC, from which you can decide to internally transfer to Marshall afterwards.

Like I said, direct admission consideration shouldn’t hurt or improve your chances, as you would actually be compared to the top students first (assuming Marshall has “better” applicants).

HappyBuddha- I’m not sure if I can remember correctly, but if there was a secondary major choice, I’m sure it was optional. I’m positive I only put down business as my major.
