Extracurricular: varsity tennis, certified EMT, certified CNA, 200+ hrs volunteer service with hospital/local EMS, leadership role as "upperclassman buddy" for freshmen, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, member of various clubs, did internship at hospital (oncology)
Essays: not written yet; still a junior (well above-average writing skills)</p>

<p>I don't have very high hopes for Cornell, but I figured I would give it a shot. I am applying at NYU though, and that seems like a realistic choice for me.</p>

<p>I don’t know why you say you have small hopes, your SAT score, GPA, rank, and senior courseload are all highly competitive. More importantly, your extracurriculars demonstrate leadership and dedication. Schools like Cornell are reaches for anyone, so consider it a reach but keep in mind that you do have a shot. NYU is probably a safety or low match.</p>

<p>Reach, but you definitely have as much of a shot as anyone else if not better.
what is the sat breakdown? cornell only considers reading and math.
is that unweighted or weighted gpa / what ap courses have you taken or is that senior year, not that it matters that much</p>

<p>I don’t think NYU is a safety for anyone.
The ivys are reaches for everyone, even with a 2400 / 4.0 and great ecs.
hooks help, but you never know with admissions at ivy and other top east coast schools</p>
