Hello, just trying to see what my chances are to get into LSU for the Fall 2011 term. I am a survivor of hurricane Katrina. I moved to Florida a couple of years after the hurricane. The school I went to made me repeat a grade because of issues to do with credits from lack of school time after the hurricane.

I just took the ACT yesterday. The scores you see listed above were from the first and only ACT I have ever taken, with no prep. I am scheduled to take the SAT in March. Thanks in advance.

Well I am expecting for my scores to improve from last time. I am also going to take the SAT which, from practice tests, I have done better at. Also how much will recommendations help my chances? And the last thing is should I write a admissions essay even though there isn’t a requirement for it.

Good luck on your tests. 2. Good recommendations will help, but grades/scores/activities are more weighted 3. I don’t remember if there was a prompt for an essay; if there isn’t, I wouldn’t bother writing one, but if there’s an optional essay then definitely do it.

I’m not sure if they superscore - you could check with the admissions department. My educated guess on SAT scores is 500 or higher on each section.

On another note, have you considered attending a Florida community college? It would be cheaper, and you would get smaller class sizes. That’s where I started, years ago.

Yes I have considered that. I really want to go to LSU. So I am doing everything I can to get in. I don’t think a community college is bad, I would just rather go to a university.

Aba, congrats on improving your score. Unfortunately, LSU puts a lot of weight in having a GPA of 3.0 or above. Your best bet is to highlight your life circumstances in an essay or by talking with someone in admissions. Good luck.

LSU8888 - Thanks for the info. I hate that LSU is like that. I am writing an essay about my personal life. I also have three pretty strong recs. So hopefully that will help me get in.

I checked my admissions status and it said that they have made a ruling and that I should get something in the mail. My SAT score was not taking into consideration because it wasn’t in yet. I really hope I got in.
