Chance me?!

I'm a junior, graduating 2012. I would go to GW for Journalism.

My (weighted, my school does not give unweighted) GPA is a 3.4 for my fresh + soph years but due to the amount of AP classes I am taking this year I am very confident it will rise to at least a 3.5. The school I go to is a very good school, it's public but it is a Blue Ribbon School and has been ranked in many best highschools in the US lists in magazines.

I just got my SAT scores and I got a 1750. I've only taken it once and I really think it will go up. I'm aiming for a 1900.

All of the AP/Honors classes I have taken/will take:

Honors French 3,4,5 (I entered high school at a high level)

AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP Government (for next year).

Honors English Fresh + Soph year, AP Language and Composition this year, AP Literature (for next year)

AP Art History

I have been writing for the school paper since Freshmen year and am currently the Editor-in-Chief and will be next year as well. I am also the top student in charge of costuming for my school's theatre productions. I have worked on every show (six so far) and will continue my senior year.

I have taken three summers of various art classes at Moore College of Art and this summer I am doing the Pre-College program at RISD for Graphic Design.

I also have a successful fashion/art/music/culture blog that has garnered a nice readership, and am on a first-name basis with some of the most popular fashion bloggers that are around currently.

I have also done four lemonade stands for Alex's Lemonade Stand with my family. My brother is a cancer survivor and the organization is something that is actually special to me, I am not just using it to "look good." I will continue to contribute more to the organization over time.

If my GPA DOES go up to a 3.5 (or even a 3.6, hopefully) and I apply Regular Decision, do you think I can get in?

Also: My dad went to GW for Business/Marketing but he has not given any $ to the school. Do you think they will still consider it for admission?

I normally do not reply to chances, but your being the Editor-in-Chief in your school newspaper compelled me to respond. My S2’s best friend in high school was also the school newspaper Editor-in-Chief. They both planned to attend GW. To both their disappointment, my S2 got in, but his friend did not. My S2’s friend had a 3.8 UW GPA, with 1960 SATs, with lots of APs, and rejected RD @ GW for the Class of 2014.

Just a suggestion, you may want to apply ED!

That’s excellent advice.

i got in with top 8%rank, 3.5 gpa (4.3 weighted) and 2030 sat with freaking scholarship.
try to get above 2000 on the sat. you have time :D

also, i got a 1 on the ap bio test and a 2 on the apush test lol

The SATs are a little low, I’d really try improving that. I got in ED with an 1810, but everything else (interview, GPA, course rigor, essays) were really good. So if you don’t give a 19xx on the SAT your second time around, focus on killing the interview and have a very good essay. I’d reccomend that you take your essay to your AP English teacher or something and have her look over it. GWU only gets one snapshot of you before they wish make their decision, make it good. Also, I’d apply ED if GWU is the only school you’re really interested in.

If you have a 3.5 GPA by the time the new applicant year comes around, you’ll need to get a 2100+ on your SAT or the equivalent on your ACT to get to GW. This year the acceptance rate was less than 31% and admissions rejected applicants of the highest caliber.

Rejected 10 char

Dont listen to the guy above me - while GWU is a great school, they do not require people wit 3.5 GPA to get a 2100 plus on their GPA. That is an incredibly high SAT for a school of this caliber. If you apply early decision, a 3.5, 1850 - 1900, good ECS, and good essays will probably get you in. Now if you apply regular decision you might not get in, mainly because of a lot of the ivy and elite school rejects apply there.

He’s applying RD- I think it’s a reach.
