To anyone reading this, can you guys please chance me for UT Austin (McCombs school of business and CNS), Rice, Texas A&M, SMU, Baylor, and TCU.

(side note) - Which two colleges should I send the 2 college referrals from being commended for national merit, if indeed I do get it.

My son got into UT (computer science) and A&M (math). Rejected by Rice. Did not apply anywhere else. Similar rank and test scores to you. Attends local private prep school with just over 100 students at end of Jr. year. Also NM commended. GPA in the 90s. Time is almost up for GPA. You are academic admit for A&M now, I think. Double check their requirements.

This took me over two hours. I’m not sure why I’m doing this…but heed ye warnings :O

You’re a great candidate and I can see you have worked hard!

UT: very high reach

UT accepts 85% of their class automatically. 5% of spots are reserved to out-of-state candidates. You have to treat UT like Rice, because for you, it is a highly selective school.

Honestly, I would not apply for BOTH Business or College of Natural Science. Business is one of the most competitive schools there, and CNS* has limited space because of the top ten. I would choose one, then put Education as your second choice.

It’s a lot easier to transfer majors than it is to transfer schools.

*LA and CNS are the schools that honor the top ten requirement. (I think Education does too, but it’s a lot easier to get in.) The other schools, because they are so competitive, aren’t restricted to Top Ten.

You can still get in LA or CNS (and it is STILL easier to get into those than Business), but they’re both ridiculously competitive.

must-haves:

~Make sure you send an extended resume.

~Get your test scores up. They’re VERY important! UT does not care about subject tests, don’t bother sending them (okay, send them if they’re really good…but they won’t change anything. They’ll just give you AP-style credit. :D)

Take those tests over and over again. Make sure to prepare for the Science portion of the ACT. Go in thinking you are going to do well.

Rice–very high reach

I didn’t apply to Rice, but a lot of my friends did. It’s very competitive, watch out what you apply for. (Nix applying for Architecture!!!)

I would recommend a campus visit, early decision (if you’re sure it’s your first choice) and getting an interview.

Hmm, what else can I say…? OH. Yeah, they really look for diversity. That is extremely important to them. (Not that you can coughs change this! If you aren’t white, capitalize on it.)

Texas A&M–match

Don’t go here.

Haha, just kidding…looks upward (a whisper) Don’t become an Aggie…

(swallows)

There’s lots of ways to get into A&M. It’s a very good school, treat it as such. It’s considerably easier than UT (I say this without a bias, it is), UNLESS you apply for Engineering. (Then it’s ridiculously hard to get in).

–Apply EARLY. I’m talking, like, August/September. They accept students on a rolling basis–this means as soon as you send in your app, they send a YES or NO back to you.

Start your application over the summer (if you can). Ask your teachers to write you recommendations over the summer (NO MORE than two, make sure that they’re meaningful). Your test scores are good enough now, but take the SAT and ACT as much as you can before school gets out.

You should take it throughout senior year, too! However, if you send your stuff into A&M early, you can get a college acceptance letter back before Halloween. That’s something you want. That being said, don’t rush it to get in early. Make sure you do a good job.

read all of this:
[Ways to be Admitted](http://admissions.tamu.edu/freshmen/gettingin/waysAdmitted/default.aspx)

Again, there are many roads to A&M. If you don’t get in outright and still want to go, you have options.

SMU–low reach, high match

I live near SMU. It’s WAY expensive and not worth it. (Just my thoughts.) You shouldn’t pay so much for it.

Great business programs. That looks like your first choice, go ahead and apply for it. Here, it is not worth it to wait and transfer to another major (too expensive).

They have a wonderful swim team. If you can get a decently-sized scholarship (like, 12k a year), I’d say that it’s worth it. They give a lot of merit aid.

The kids are really preppy, the football team is terrible, great outside town. If it’s your scene (and you’re a certain type of person), it’s a great school for you.

I would recommend a visit.

Baylor–match, in, whatever you want to say

High tuition, but lots of scholarships.

I just did a scholarship match on the site for you, and you have 12,500 per academic year, or 50,000 total. This is a great school and I think you can get in.

<a href=“Undergraduate Admissions | Baylor University”>Undergraduate Admissions | Baylor University;

You’re welcome!

“I am a National Merit Finalist and listed Baylor as my first choice college with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.”

^If you’re seriously interested in Baylor, I would send them the NMF thing. That more than doubles your total aid (to 122,880 thousand).

Bad outside town, pretty campus, great medical school.

TAKE THE APP SERIOUSLY. APPLY EARLY.

TCU–low match, high safety

If you get your test scores up to 2100ish, you’re in. Great school. High tuition, again, but a lot of scholarships. AHRHAKWfjWA SO BURNED OUT, I’M DONE.

(side note) - Which two colleges should I send the 2 college referrals from being commended for national merit, if indeed I do get it.

^The ones you are most interested in! If you’re not sure, choose Rice and UT.

^^That being said, it might be better to send it to a high match that a high reach. I think you should definitely send it to UT.
