First of all, some things about me so you get an idea, if these will be suitable for me or now.

I'm an Indian student. I'm 17 year old now (March 2011) and I'll be completing my class XII (high school) in March 2012. So, I'm looking for a Sep 2012 intake.. I'm looking to apply somewhere around August 2011. So, my first question is can I do this? I mean, by the time I apply, my schooling wouldn't be complete.

Here are my class scores from last 3 years.
Class IX = 85%
Class X = 86%
Class XI = 79%

Also, I've been an active in badminton and have represented my school in numerous (50+) badminton tournaments, and won majority of them. I've played badminton at National level for 3 consecutive years..

Other than sports, I've been to other various competitions, and won them.

Next up is my SAT. It was pretty low: 1700. Should I take the SAT again?

Also, some people told me that TOEFL is required, some told only SAT is enough. So, should I take the TOEFL, too?

Applications are usually due December 1st. Students apply much before their last year in high school is over.

You should definitely take the TOEFFL because you are an international applicant. Right? Either way, I think it would be beneficial to you.

Take the SAT again. You need a much better score because you’re not top 9% from Texas.

I think for next year, UT will take the top 9% students from Texas. That is a LOT of students. That means it will be a lot harder for out-of-state, international, and non top 9% applicants (Texas) to get in.

How rigorous are your classes? That will be very important.

Continuing what whoknows123 said, if you most especially want an acceptance into McCombs Business School or the College of Natural Sciences, you want to shoot for a 2250-2300+ SAT for a really good shot.

First off please excuse me as I don’t know much of anything of applying as an international student. International students make up about 9% of total students so it should be more competitive. If I understand this right your grades are on a percent scale so your average is 83.3 for the three years you gave ((85%, 86%, 79%)/3); converting that to GPA is about 3.0. Out of state student virtually don’t have a chance with a 3.0 GPA(link here: [How to Convert Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>How to Convert (Calculate) Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale – BigFuture)). I don’t mean to discourage you, it could simply be that schools in India are a lot tougher, although your class rank and SAT scores are also weak. Students in Texas need to be top 8% to have a good chance of admittance, I imagine you would need to be top 3%-4% of your class if your international. As for applying in September, that isn’t too bad as virtually all students apply before they graduate. When the other people were talking about rigor they meant are the classes your taking any sort of “honors”, or in other words are you in a class that only has the smarter kids in your school or the general class with everyone else; an advanced class. As for the TOEFL I could be wrong here, but if you have been speaking English for more than 10 years you don’t need to take it.

I’m an international transfer student and I can only tell you:

take the TOEFL because most schools ask for it
do not apply to only one school
retake the SAT, I got 1790 and I’m pretty low…
your GPA is kind of low, try to increase it as much as you can.
If you score higher in the SAT (over 2000) that maaaaay balance your GPA but I’m not completely sure

make sure you make outstanding essays
make sure you choose the correct people/teachers for your letters of recommendation

I have no answer from the UT yet, but I’ll let you know if they accept me… in case they do I may be of help to you…
