GWU is basically my dream school. I've visited campus (during presidents day weekend) and sat in on a class (20th century political thought). i love the school so much . I've had contact with admissions (the lady who set me up with the class visit) and im planning an interview/overnight campus/dorm visit for august. im applying Early Decision I also.

And im applying for the 7 year BA/MD program. if i dont get in for freshman year, ill re-apply for sophmore year
do i have a good chance?

I think you have a pretty good chance. The only thing that MIGHT hurt you is the SAT scores, but you’ve shown intense interest in the school and I think that’ll definitely help you out. Applying ED will definitely help too. I’d say accepted. Good luck :)

The BA/MD program is very difficult to get into. I don’t think your SAT scores are good enough to get into that program.

thanks !
and @shellfell : im retaking it in may for a better score. also, if i dont get into the program ill re-apply during freshman year

yes to Columbian, no to BA/MD.

You’ll also need a science and a math SAT2

i know. im taking math 1 in june and math 2 and bio in october.

but if i apply during freshman year in college, what are the pre reqs?

That sounds like a question for an advisor. There’s no ED for BA/MD- admissions come out in the spring.
Where did you see you could transfer in later? I don’t think you can. This says it’s for high school seniors.

From the website:“A joint program of The George Washington University Columbian College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the seven year B.A./M.D. program is designed for high school seniors who exhibit academic excellence, leadership in activities, community service, and health care experiences, and have a strong desire to become a physician.”

i know someone who goes there and she says shes applying for next year and shes a freshman now .

bumpppppppppppppp

I wouldn’t trust what another student says. I agree with schmohawk that you should speak to an advisor.

I agree with shellfell.

In addition, I’d urge you to keep in mind that the numbers are already overwhelmingly stacked against stellar applicants who fit the applicant profile–that is, incredibly well qualified applicants who are in high school. If they can fill the program dozens of times over from the pool of high-school seniors (the people they’re actually looking for), then I am inclined to think the likelihood that they’d make an exception to take a transfer into the program is basically nil.

Just for some information to get a feel on what these guys are talking about here, you may also want to check the April 11, 2011 issue of The Hatchet online @ [The GW Hatchet](http://www.gwhatchet.com) on an article about the GW medical school acceptance rate. I assume the BA/MD program is just as touch!

oops, I meant, “just as tough!”

thanks guys . i’ll retake the SAT and then do the subject tests . whatever happens happens. i can still just do the regular 4 years

See post # 8 Here is a person who got in- great GPA and SATs/ SAT IIs, note the commitment and ECs- HS program, published research

Definetly rejected BA/med
Definitely Accepted Columbian

@schmohawk . well thats good for that person . in my area we dont have any of that stuff nearby . and the max APs are 3 for seniors only . im pushing 4 for next year but i still have to talk the dean into it . our NHS … basically you get inducted and just do the required hours. none of the clubs really do anything at all . and i’ve been in 4 different highschools in 3 years . 2 of them were in nigeria last year . (no behavioral reasons. the location of the first school was very dangerous during election time because of shootings so i had to leave) .
not that im making excuses, but i really didnt have the chance to do all of that .
but anyway, my main concern was just GWU . i can still go to med school afterr.

but thanks for chancing me :)

I think you’ll get into GW ED because you seem like a smart, interesting candidate, but it is binding, so make sure that’s what you want.

You def. have a great chance. I got in to GWU with an 1860 so it’s not impossible, but I also had top grades and pretty high gpa. Also, for a school like GWU, you have to establish a passion in something. For me it was Model UN and volunteering. I also attended an international conference and wrote my essay about an international issue that was personal to me. Just work hard in school and keep doing what you’re doing. Find a strong passion in something and run with that! Best of luck. :)
