Chance me? (:

So my sophomore year is ending, and my family is starting to ask me what colleges I want to go to. They think I can get into UPenn... but I really don't think they realize how hard it is. I'm trying to prove them that most likely, I can't get in

Okay so I hate this part because it makes everyone sound conceited but here it goes!

I think my high school is in like the top 30 schools in new jersey
and also my grandpa went to upenn, if that helps at all ahaha.
oh, and I'm white

and if this is too much of a reach, can anyone suggest schools at this level?

Penn is certainly a reach, but it is for basically everybody. I can’t really say much from your stats as of now, but it will probably be a reach for you. It’s good to have a few reaches in the repertoire of the colleges you plan on applying to. But make sure you’re applying to Penn because YOU want to go there, not because your family wants you to. In terms of where else to apply, it really depends on what you plan on majoring in, and other preferences; if you can provide those, I can give rough suggestions.

I either want to major in some sort of physics, maybe chemistry, but if not that then psychology. And if I don’t like those, then Classics. By the way, thanks!

You do stand a chance, although obviously not all good applicants like yourself are going to get in. If Penn is your top choice you should really apply ED because I am pretty sure you count as a legacy if your grandparent attended and legacy status is only considered ED.
