collegeready99, I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to say that you’re not going to make the cut. UGA’s admission website (A Few First Year Applicant FAQ's - UGA Undergraduate Admissions) says that grades play the most important part in their decision, and even weighted, yours fall far below the 25th percentile. Taken the differences between your weighted and unweighted GPA, it doesn’t appear as though you’ve taken many advanced classes and they place a lot of importance on that as well, although, even if you have some honors, I quote this from the website - “A challenging schedule will not counterbalance a non-competitive GPA, as your grades ultimately remain the single most important factor.” I am sorry, and I wish you all the best, but I consider it highly doubtful that you’ll get in.

Rush222, it’s rather iffy. You’re below the 25th percentile; weighted, you’re close, but UGA weights AP courses differently than most high schools so you’re lower in your grades than you think. Your SAT scores are just average. You do have some good extracurriculars, but your course rigor is just about average. Your extracurriculars will make you stand out, but again, grades are the most important and you’re hurting there; rigor is the second most important and you have nothing spectacular to justify why your grades would be lower. It’s iffy.

I would not consider UGA as a safety for you. Your SAT score is good but the GPA is low. A lot will depend on what the other candidates look like, if the class is a strong class then I am not sure how much your GPA will hurt you. You definitely should apply RD so that they will take a look at the entire picture. You can do EA but I think you will be deferred since EA is all about stats and I think your GPA will hurt.

Out Of State
Unweighted GPA - 3.38
Weighted GPA - unsure
SAT CR - 600, SAT M - 590, SAT W - 660 (retaking in Fall 2011)
3 APs so far, 4 more next year
All honors/gifted courses
4 year, 3 season varsity athlete with captain positions, multiple awards
Student council president
National Honors Society
Summer camp counselor
2 year freshman mentor
Many hours of community service

You fall below the 25% in GPA and SAT. If you take 4 APs, your # of APs is in line with others but that lives 2 out of 3 areas that you are still below the 25%. You need to get SAT up at least 30 points to get to the 25th percentile. I would not say impossible but it will be pretty tough.

Have you tried the ACT? You should try that as well, it is easier for some.
