I go to a very rural school, hence my lack of AP’s. Many classes don’t run simply because they don’t have enough people signing up for them. This also accounts for my lack of clubs. (I am in 2 of 4 offered at my school). Unfortunately my district is considering a 3 block schedule which will cause even more conflicts.

Be harsh, I know my act isn’t were it needs to be… but I will do better! I am aiming for ultimately a 32, which I’ve done before on the practice tests.

Thank you

My daughter applied to Bates this year and was waitlisted. She was first in her class, weighted GPA 4.41 (or maybe higher now - that was end of junior year), unweighted 3.97. She took SAT’s (670/620/700) which I believe would be the equivalent of a 29 ACT. She took 4 AP’s, her school also did not offer many AP’s - only 7, two of which she was ineligible to take (Spanish & Art). She also had many awards/ leadership roles/ varsity sports and Community service. I was so surprised that she did not get into Bates. In looking back, I think that attending the public school she did hurt her chances. Also although her SAT were in line with the Princeton Review guide stats, I think the applicant pool was more competitive this year. There is a lot of competition out there - and it seems to get tougher every year. My advice would be to go for it if you want - pay attenstion to everything (ACT, interviews, essay etc.), and if you are certain, apply ED, because your chances may be better. But also have some good back ups, other easier to get into schools that you really like. Good luck.

As a current Bates undergraduate, you seem by your statistics have a good chance. Your GPA is sufficient. As for your ACT score, you don’t have to worry. Submitting SAT or ACT scores are optional, and it doesn’t affect your chances if you do not submit it. If you do however, it will be taken into consideration. I had an ACT of 26, so i decided not to submit it. I would only submit it if it was above 30. You have good extracirculars and awards as well. What really matters isn’t what you do, but who you are. Your essay matters a lot, you need to stand out. The fact that you can speak and write Greek is unique and you should capitalize on it. Bates looks for diversity in many different ways
