I don’t think retaking SAT USH is necessary. What I realized after spending a year at NU, anything above 750 for SAT II subjects is pretty much the same. SAT IIs are least of concerns. Plus USH is not an easy subject so 750 should be fine. As long as you get 2200+ on SAT I and write an interesting essay that describes you in a new, refreshing angle, you should be fine. Good luck!

I think you would be an OUTSTANDING applicant for Northwestern. Yet you probably know that you need to work on your extra-curricular activities and try to get more leadership positions. Since you live in the state, try to sign-up for an Interview, visit the campus, and make sure Northwestern know that this is your first choice. GOOD LUCK!

I simply don’t have enough time to commit to other things for E.C. I have 5 younger siblings, and I help/tutor 4 of them. My dad works from 8 am to 11 pm and I basically have to fill up that position since my mom doesnt know english.
I guess I don’t HAVE to tutor them, but I know that if they are to get a good education, they need a solid start.
I also have to do all these other chores and run errands since both mom and dad are busy. Should I try and emphasize that on my essay?

It is a rare thing for a high school student to have your numbers and still work with their 4 younger siblings and help at home as much as you seem to, so yes, I would definitely emphasize that but not as a negative at all, you should be very proud to have accomplished all you have. Life at home is your leadership position! I’m guessing you’re first generation American or even a naturalized citizen? Are you also first college applicant in your family? You are very impressive!

I never respond to these “chance me” threads as there is no way for anyone to know so I think they’re a waste of time, but I had to respond to you - you should be very proud, not apologetic!

My older brother attends Cornell, so I guess i’m not the 1st person to attend college in the family.
I’ll be turning in my naturalization forms this month, just waiting on dad to finish his part.
Thanks for responding!

Sali, you should be proud of your accomplishments and helping your younger siblings. As Woody Hayes once said, “you have to pay forward.” Good luck getting into NW. I think you have a great chance.
