Not to be mean, but you have a 0% chance. Nothing sets you apart from other applicants, at all. No national awards, competitions, internships… Nothing. You have a 0% chance, sorry… And sorry for being harsh, I’m just fed up with the world at the moment.

Who says ya need national awards?

I won lots of Forensics tournaments and won my team’s Distinction in Forensics award…please don’t assume I have “no competitions” whatever that means.

I’ve competed in and won Nastar races for skiing…

Sorry I don’t have internships but I wanted to do my work helping disadvantaged kids in Detroit this summer okay? I could’ve gotten one if I really wanted to. People told me what I really care about is more worthwhile…

And I have 2 significant leadership positions so I’m so sorry to bother you with this question.

First of all, IGNORE Eli…Indeed, you do have a chance to be admitted to Princeton. Your ACT scores are top-notch. Try to accentuate either your inner-city work or demonstrate somehow that this yearbook edition you are editing is simply STELLAR!

Attaining national awards or Olympic medals or All American sports honors are all admirable and quite helpful to hopeful candidates, but not guarantees either.

I have been reading stories from students and their parents on this forum about their experiences and hopes and dreams…Don’t let anyone dash them. Be realistic and INSIST that your are noticed! Apply early. That means getting your rec letters ready as well. Good luck!

Thanks BarristerDad!!! Ya I really plan on elaborating more on my ECs; I guess SOME people don’t appreciate the value of brevity on here!!! lol. My school’s yearbook is considered one of the top in the state actually. And I tutor high-level math by the way not easy stuff. My work in Deteoit is really important to me…definitely writing an essay on it or something. I’m a good writer so I bet it’ll be interestin’!

I was a little harsh, but what I’m getting at is that right now, your application is just a number, 35. If your application still seems like a mere number when it comes time to apply, then you have a problem. Look at the profiles of admitted students… Sorry, but a number isn’t going to get you into the second-ranked university in the United States.

*** is that supposed to mean? EVERYONE has numbers on their apps, not just me (And, that being said, mine’s higher than many people’s [99th percentile]). I am involved in, and have various achievements in, a diverse crop of what I consider to be impressive ECs: 2 sports, 2 leadership positions, competitive public speaking, and exposure to engineering. I’m also a freshman mentor. I have work experience tutoring and lifeguarding. I have a cause I’m passionate about, and I’m a great writer, so this should be easy to convey. The teachers writing my recs think highly of me. I’m a girl who loves math & physics and plans to go into engineering. Personally, I don’t think I’m just a number. Sorry if you think so.

You should list your competitions and victories. I think that’s why Eli said you have no chance, mainly because you didn’t elaborate.
But I think you have good chances.
You’re a competitive applicant and great essays may push you in.

^ thanks bud! I’m a great writer, as my past 3 English teachers and APUSH teacher have said, just tryin to boost my ethos for when I say I WILL WRITE GOOD ESSAYS lol.

How can you guarantee that you’ll get 800s on all the SAT IIs?

I’m going to STUDY!!! lol plus it’s not that hard and I am good at them now can u please chance me.

Those numbers are a good start to get admission into any top school, really. You still need to do those subject tests and finish up your senior year, but I do think a good finish would do you well.

Thanks! Ya I’m gettin all As this year legit. No slackin or lettin senioritis get the best of me here.

First off, you’re not getting into Princeton.

A) You only have a 3.87 UW GPA.
B) You only took 3 AP classes and got 4s on 2 of them. If you truly went to a “well regarded” public HS in MI (Grosse Pointe North, Novi, Northville, West Bloomfield, etc.), this is not even close to the most rigorous curriculum you can take. I went to one of those 5 high schools mentioned and the most competitive kids took 5-6 APs or more by senior year.
C) Skiing is not a real sport and JV Tennis is a joke.
D) Kumon is not “high level math” even at the peak difficulty of the program’s curriculum.
E) Unless you’ve won States in Forensics, none of those regional MIFA tournaments count for jack. Plus, you could be doing Sales or TV Broadcasting which is not nearly as competitive as Impromptu or Extempt.
F) Lifeguarding and tutoring inner-city kids makes you part of a crowd of millions of high schoolers that do the exact same thing.
G) You’re probably not going to get triple 800s on those SAT IIs, especially not Chem when you didn’t take AP Chem.

The only thing you have going for you is that you’re a Female interested in Engineering. Still, that’s not going to be enough to get you into an Ivy or Duke/Stanford. If you want to get into a top ranked private school, EDing Northwestern or Vandy is probably your best shot. If that doesn’t work out, thank the lucky stars you have UofM-Ann Arbor as a solid in-state match.

You probably wanted to hear from us that you’ve got a strong shot at Princeton but like Eli said, you’re simply not good enough to get into the 2nd ranked university in America. That’s the stone cold truth. Please don’t waste an early application on Princeton.

^^ Birmingham. 3rd-ranked in the state for college readiness (only after IA & some other charter school in Ann Arbor). The absolute most rigorous curriculum at my school is 3 APs before senior year (APUSH sophomore year, Lang & either Euro, Psych, or Econ junior year), then all APs senior year. Skiing is a real sport (I’d like to see you try to race if it’s so easy) and the top of JV A Tennis when 75 girls are involved in tennis and only 12 make Varsity and there’s a B team is not a joke. Kumon is “high-level math,” if you consider I’m the only one in charge of tutoring the highest point of its curriculum (Precalc). I’m sorry, but you don’t even know one iota how competitive any of the events listed were this year and are of no authority to event suggest that you are. I’ve finaled at states, if it makes you happy. I never said I tutored inner-city kids; I said I was one of a select few with a prominent leadership role in providing free care to the kids of poor families in Detroit (something very few high schoolers can attest to, contrary to your ignorant belief). Oh, and I’m glad you can predict my level of knowledge of math, physics, & chemistry; it must be easy to do when I’m clearly the biggest idiot the world has ever seen. And I will “waste an early application to Princeton.”

Queer: Don’t be worried. It is the norm for the most advanced kids at my school. There’s simply no space for others unless one is under special circumstances, like Honors Precalc in freshman year or something. And wow, I was unaware a 4 was a terrible score, especially when they’re in history, a subject I have no intention to even take in college. I’m sorry the only impressive thing in my resume is being a female interested in Engineering. I didn’t know my ACT, rigorous schedule, leadership, community service, glowing teacher recs, SAT IIs, or essays didn’t count for anything and that’s the only thing keeping me from not being considered a complete joke. No, I’m not a legacy. Yes, I am certain my teacher recs will be awesome. There are coaches/advisors I could ask, but I’ve been told too many recs is often frowned upon.

Queer: You put someone’s chances with a 3.5-3.7 GPA and a SAT score in the 2200s with a resume that “doesn’t stand out” at 60%…and mine are “extremely slim”? What?

You have a good chance. One, you are a female aiming for a degree in engineering. Forget those who say your chances are slim. EVERYONES CHANCES ARE SLIM!!! But don’t let that make you give up. Your credentials are good, better than a typical applicant. And for your AP scores, if you don’t feel comfortable reporting them, DON’T! It’s as simple as that. Nonetheless, you are a strong applicant, regardless of what people say. (: Don’t forget, essays and interviews may count substantially. GOOD LUCK!! (;

Thank you! I intend for my essays/interviews to be great. Is a 4 bad?
