You have a decent chance. Apply early.

Hi, sorry to ask, but can someone chance me too? Penn State will be a reach for me, but I just want to get an opinion of how much of a reach it will be:

Weighted: 3.62/Unweighted: 3.56
ACT Composite: 30
English: 33
Math: 32
Reading: 28
Science: 28
2 AP’s/1 Honors*
EC: co-founder, vice-president, & president of Gay Straight Alliance/ Cheer Team/ Key Club/ Volunteered at a Library/ Worked as a Math tutor/ Church youth groups/ Mission trip to Mexico/ Pre-College program at an art college

& I’ll be an OOS student.
I have NO idea if this will help me, but my school is a new school (I’m part of the first graduating class. We have about 200 students).

*Another Question:
I was dead-set on going into an art program until this summer, which explains the lacking AP’s. I needed as much art as I could get & my school did not offer AP Art/Art History, so I filled up my spots with extra drawing classes, etc… (How do I explain this to colleges?)

Thanks in advance!

I don’t think it’s a reach for you, more of a match. I believe Penn State UP’s average gpa acceptance rate is about 50% (I read somewhere on here this year was 46%); 3.55-3.9 ish gpa, so about 3.7. That said, you can still get in with a 3.3 or 3.4 gpa…because I did lol. The other parts of your application has to be stronger to compensate for your gpa, but that won’t be an issue for the both of you since, especially the first guy, took a ton of APs and Honors. @kooldino, you have a good chance at PSU. Again, just apply early and do the optional essays. If PSU is your number one choice, then mark off the “summer” option on the application. Also, it depends on what major you’re applying to sciences/business/communications tend to have a higher standard, while the undecided option is less lenient. However, keep in mind, i’ve seen people with 3.5-3.7 get rejected. You just have to apply early and hope for the best…but I wouldn’t worry if I were you.

@DJpsu2015, Thanks for the response, but I have a few questions on what you said.

Optional essays? Is that the optional 500 on the application or what?

mark off the summer option? As in put it on as yes or no?

SO, undecided is HARDER to get in? O_o
