School does not rank, but in top ten percent out of about 100 students.

Schedule senior year:
AP Art History
AP French
Calculus
AP Government (second semester)
AP Studio Art
Honors English
Honors Conservation Biology Seminar

Other:

Created and operates an art review blog

Legacy: Both parents and aunt and uncle attended, aunt and uncle are alumni interviewers
Thanks!

I think you’re in good shape, particularly given your legacy status. You have focused EC’s in art and dance. You should be able to write a very convincing “Why Swat?” essay.

Just came back from an overnight visit and on-campus interview and a meeting with Sharon Friedler. I will be sending in a dance supplement and was personally asked for a dance resume. Also I might send in a visual arts supplement.

Update: I am applying early. Chance me again? Suggestions?

I think that applying ED and having the double legacy status puts you in good shape! Nothing is a sure bet with Swarthmore, but you’ve got a very solid GPA, lopsided SAT scores but the perfect score in the more difficult category, CR. You know a lot about the school and this puts you in better shape than many applicants.

Double legacy, ED, fairly attractive stats besides one SAT section… you have very good odds. As said, it isn’t a certainty of course, but I wouldn’t worry about the math score.

ED, full pay (even if Swat is need blind, this has to be a plus) and legacy are a winning combination. If you are applying as a dance or fine arts major, your math score ought to be good enough. If accepted, you will be accepted on the aforementioned and your talent and other strengths. FWIW, a dept. chair told me that admissions sent over several hundred talent supplements, and the dept got to pick a few (10 or so?) candidates who their faculty wanted to work with–this is a dept with maybe 5-7 graduating majors per year. Those talented ones got admitted if all else looked good. So if your talent CDs are great, then I’d predict a 100% certainty. Good luck!

That said, some very talented legacies have indeed been rejected by Swat (unlike Princeton or Yale, where a double legacy would pretty much have to be a psychopath to not get in, and even then has a chance). If you can get your math SAT up into the middle 50% for Swat, that would be nice. Yes, you have a good shot.

I am thinking of being an art history or polysci major, so nothing with mathematics. Dance is something I love to do. Thanks for the encouragement! I will post here when I find out!

Another strategy would be to take the SAT 2’s in Math. A higher score on one of those could offset the lower SAT 1 in Math. But if you are not happy with those scores, you don’t have to send them
