Chance me!

Hey guys! I'm thinking of applying to the computer science program at UT Austin from Oklahoma, so I'm OOS. I was wondering what you think of my scores, coursework, etc. What are my chances of getting admission and scholarships?

GPA: 4.1 (4.0 UW)

Class rank: In top 7%

AP Courses: AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP English IV, but have not taken AP tests for Calc and Chem because of competitions that required my presence out of state)

SAT: 1900 (first time)

Low SAT for out of state

I think you are competitive in the OOS pool but there are no guarantees as so few OOS applicants are admitted. Please note the likelihood of merit scholarships is next to nothing–UT gives very few merit awards. You need to count on paying or accessing financial aid, if your family’s eligible.

UT’s Common Data Set for the 2010 class shows a SAT mid-range for ALL students of 1640-2040, with 1640 at the 25th percentile and 2040 at the 75th percentile. 1940 SAT beats the mean score for all 2010 freshmen from Texas (1812) and all Texas applicants who were not auto-admits per class rank (1909). I don’t know of a public source of the test score data for OOS applicants, but it’s reasonable to conclude you are in the mid-range for OOS applicants. Your top 7% ranking will earn you high marks, and your ECs are solid and interesting.
Good luck!
