My only downfall is having no national awards. (only small, local ones).

My first choice is Biology and the second is undergraduate studies (undeclared).

You’re most likely in, but will probably not get an admission until around February or so like the other review admits. Considering Biology is by nature a relatively-easy-to-get-into major, you are almost certainly guaranteed a spot. Good luck

Oh year, you’re scores will also help you out. You’re composite is the same as mine, but I got into engineering:p Great job nonetheless.

I’m out of state with a 3.75 and a 1270 superscore SAT and a 1240 not superscore. A lot of charitable stuff with one organization and a couple of national/local awards. Captain of the basketball team. Two pretty good essays. I applied to liberal arts. Do I have a shot? Anything I can do to improve my chances?

My scores suffice for an easy admission into Cockrell. Not everyone that goes into engineering has an 800 SAT score. The reason my math is so low anyways is because I basically did not take algebra 2. That is why I’m taking it along with calculus and what not. I am pretty good at calculus though, if that’s of any importance to you.

Also my GPA is so low because I had a horrible sophomore year because of some stuff going on. However, I made it up junior year, which most likely brought it up from an almost certain 2.xx. this year I am getting straight As and will most likely raise it up a good chunk

Aerospace is one of the easiest majors to get accepted to within Cockrell. Those scores would be low for ChemE or BME, the harder majors to get in to.

It’s not all about scores on standardized tests. For example, my math on the SAT/ACT was a 640/28. This was due to the fact that I did not have the adequate math background due to my sophomore year problems. When you compare my math sections to my other sections, it will always be lower due to this important skill that is missing. However, when you compare me now in calculus, where I’m one of the best, it is quite a different scenario. Also, my math SAT was higher than most of the students in BC calculus–students who paid attention and did their work in algebra 2 (this is why I did not get accepted to the summer pre-cal course). I know it is quite sad, but its a non-issue to me.

My school is also part of the Longhorn Scholars Program, which certainly helped to ease my admission. At my school, the average SAT I think is a 1260 or so. Now if you compare my 2060 to that average, I am certainly going to stand out to many schools.

So in short, it is not that easy to get into UT or Cockrell, but you can make it easier by standing out from the rest of your school and having decent grades. Also, aerospace is not an easy major to get into per se, but its most likely due to the fact that not a lot of people are interested in it as other majors. A lot of people go into their dream majors, which more often than not do not include aerospace (my dream major). I hope that makes sense.

I would say that you have a good chance of getting in. Your standardized test scores are good, and you have a lot of volunteer hours. You also have a good GPA from what it seems. UT cares a LOT about volunteering and leadership positions.
