Last Summer I took courses for credit at Penn. I was an enrolled Penn student and did quite well (Intro to International Relations A, Critical Analysis of Pop Culture A-, GPA 3.85) I think I was ranked somewhere in the top 3 of my IR class with other actual undergrads from Penn and I think I left an impression on my professor. Luckily enough she was the Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies and I got her to write me a req which my guidance counselor (who saw it) said was amazing.

I think your rec from Penn may help significantly.

Male is actually better than female at most colleges. You could get in, but certainly not a guarantee

your rank indicates either not the hardest workload or too many B’s in easy classes. Either way that is very likely to get you rejected.

physicsboy is being too harsh. Dartmouth looks at your application holistically. you said your b’s were early on, and my alumni interviewer said that upward trends in grades are as good as consistent good grades. Your test scores are strong, and your Penn courses show academic initiative, another thing my interviewer said is a major plus in your application. Your ec’s are strong, yet you dont seem to be spread out thin. I’d give you a 2/3 shot of being accepted.

Dartmouth freshman here. Guess how many white male non-magnet public school non-valedictorians there are in my class? So far I have met none.

I agree with andresg… I think you have a shot!
And metaphys6, my son is in your class and he is a"white male non-magnet public school non-valedictorian" I truly believe Dartmouth looks at whole package.
