Hi guys, chance me please?

Stats:

International Student from Pakistan.
Not applying for aid
SAT I: 2070 - 750 CR, 660 M, 660 W (retook in May, hopefully much better score)
GPA: not calculated at my school but if it were it'd be 3.87 UW
GCSEs: 11 A's
Class Rank: Again not calculated, per se. Was 8/176 in the GCSE results at my school. Definitely top 10% if not Top 5%.
My school sends a great deal of people to Ivies and other top universities each year. This year we had Princeton, Duke, Northwestern, Brown, Middlebury, amongst others. Last year, we had Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Penn, Dartmouth, Cornell, Chicago, Vanderbilt, etc.
Essay: I topped in my school in English Language, and I won the award for best essay writer so I think they'll be reasonably good, hopefully.
Recs: Will be very good, fingers crossed
I'm President of the Drama Club, Lead Role in the Play, done 3 years of debating, won numerous tournaments, shortlisted for national team, MUNs nationally and internationally, won the best english declamation speaker and parliamentary debator awards at school. on the school tennis team this year.

Given your username, and the fact that Carleton prefers to attract students who love it for its very own special self, and not because they (the students) cannot make the cut at the Ivies, I would say that your chances are significantly decreased by the attitude your username belies.

(By the way, I write with no particular chip on my shoulder, “Princeton 2017.” My oldest child was accepted at both Carleton and Princeton. He chose Princeton, but always looked back at Carleton with great regret and longing, and will tell you to this day that he probably should have/could have chosen differently.)

Assuming you want IVY’s, you can get into most with that. I know kids who got in with less depth to their resume but same sat score. But unfortunately I know many more who we’re denied probably cus of that score. Improve the score 100 points and you should have a few IVY’s to choose from in the spring.

@piglette, i know my username makes it seem like I’m a typical Ivy student, but in truth, I don’t want to go to Harvard or Yale at all, even if I were lucky enough to get in. I like schools like Princeton, which seems relatively more NORMAL than other, anal-retentive Ivies like Harvard. I do love what I’ve seen of Carleton, though.

I am not suggesting that you “are a typical Ivy student.” I am suggesting that your name shows that your MINDSET, your GOAL, is PRINCETON, and not Carleton. It seems, frankly, to show a certain amount of chutzpah to breeze into the Carleton forum with a username “Princeton2017” and say (almost a year in advance of the application cycle) “please chance me for Carleton.”

If your obvious goal is Princeton, I cannot help but assume that Carleton and similar LACs are second choices for you. It’s a bit presumptuous (ballsy) for you to ask to be “chanced” for a school that your username suggests you don’t truly love, given that it is a school that VERY MUCH likes to accept students who TRULY LOVE the school FOR ITSELF.

I’m sorry that it comes across as presumptuous. Princeton is my dream school, but that doesn’t mean schools like Carleton or Pomona are any less important to me. Let’s hope Carleton doesn’t get wind of my CC username.
