I'm planning to do a research project to do the Science fairs and get semifinalist or higher.

I'm planning to apply to all the Ivy Leagues, Harvey Mudd, UCLA, UCSD, and Stanford. But if I get into berkeley with a scholarship then I'll choose this over the others.

You have a very strong chance of getting into Berkeley.

Don’t forget that Berkeley IS the top in the nation for EECS. I’d say you have a above average change of getting into UCB, because of the few B’s you have, as well as average SAT for your major. Your ECs are good and will matter, but not that much. Taking classes at CC is great. But aiming to get a scholarship that will actually help pay off college tuition is a bit much, since many students 2300+, 4.0 have not received them. That being said, why are you comparing UCLA and UCSD’s engineering, as they are far less ranked below? Only schools like MIT, Harvard and Stanford could compare.

Do you need to make this chance thread to make yourself feel better? There’s no more I can tell you than you already know.

I don’t think you will get a scholarship for academics though, maybe financial aid.

I’m planning to attend only the UC system because of Financial reasons but if I somehow get into Stanford (which I highly doubt considering there are much smarter people in my class that didn’t need to take CCs) I’ll go there.

Also does Stanford and MIT count CC classes as a gpa boost in the application?

Lol bump!!!

Can someone chance me? I am a Junior hoping to get into UC Berkeley as an English major next year.

Unweighted GPA: 3.7
Weighted GPA: 4.3
UC GPA: 4.17
SAT: 1980 (610 CR, 620 M, 750 W) But, have already taken a second one, hoping for more like 2100.
SAT IIs: US History, Literature (taking both in June)
Rank: 13/about 760 (top 2%)
AP Exams: European History (3), Language, US History, Calculus AB, Environmental Science (those 4 I just took, don’t have scores yet)
ECs: Theater all 3 years, leads in 3 plays. CSF, Commissioner 10th grade year, Vice-President 11th grade year, President next year. Started Debate Club, President. JSA, Chess Club, Theater Club.
Community Service: Judged middle school debate, more than 100 hours. CSF Community Service opportunities.
Programs: Quest Bridge, NSHSS, Global Youth Leadership Conference.
Awards: Many school awards.
Other: Research opportunity at Joshua Tree National Park.
Personal: White male, low income family, first-generation college.
General: Think I will do good on the essays, I’m good at writing.

Obviously, I will have more updated statistics by this November when I apply. Just want to know if Berkeley is totally out of my league or if I have a shot.

Thanks!

Oh and I forgot. I’m Asian (Indian) and I come from a high income family.

With decent essays, you’re a shoe-in. I’ll get chastised for saying this, but you’ve a decent shot at Stanford too. Go there if you get in, without a second thought. Also, not considering MIT? That might be a low-reach too. Caltech should be a high-match/low-reach as well, since it’s pretty number-oriented.

Are you a US citizen or an international Indian? If the latter, barely any scholarships for you.

Go bears, though. :p

Note that my GPA is around 4.3 for other schools. The UC gpa is a 4.7 because I’m taking a ton of college classes (19 of them total) and they only count towards the UC GPA not the other ones. The other students in my school probably have a 4.6, 4.7 regular GPA but a lower UC GPA than me (like 4.5, 4.4).

I’ll take your comment and consider applying to MIT. Stanford I’ll be applying for sure.

4.3 isn’t shabby at all. What’s your class rank?

Colleges will definitely consider that you’ve taken all these college classes, even if they don’t factor it in the GPA calculations.

You can also consider applying to UChicago, if your essay-writing skills are excellent, because they like brilliant people in general and don’t fuss too much about the stats.

Probably top 10% for regular GPA out of 400 students. I go to Bellarmine. And I’m at least 2 or 3/400 for UC GPA.

Sorry, my previous post was assuming you went to an average school. I take that back because several people I know from Bellarmine tell me that it is a extremely competitive school. Colleges will know that getting high grades from those kinds of schools will be much harder than less competitive schools. For example, my school, Mission San Jose, will be sending 40-50 kids to Berkeley this year, and I am lucky to be in the crowd. But all in all, go bears!

So does this improve or bring down my chances of getting into UCB EECS, MIT or Stanford?

^ Definitely improves your chances. Because you went to Bellarmine, you will almost certainly get into Berkeley, and you have a very good chance at both Stanford and MIT (though no guarantees for those two).

match for EECS at Berkeley, reaches for MIT and Stanford (admissions are always weird for these schools, but should be less of a reach than most students)

Berkeley: 95%
Stanford: ~50%
MIT: ~40%

I made several mistakes in choosing my classes. I could have taken Bio Honors, Eng 1 Honors and gotten the GPA boost in my school GPA. I also missed taking World History AP, Chemistry Honors, and English 2 Honors for my Sophomore Year. I made sure I took all the AP/Honors available for junior year though. My dumb counselor is so restrictive so she wouldn’t let me take those classes…

Other students took those classes and at least 20-30 of them have a 4.5-4.6 Bellarmine GPA.
