I'm currently a rising senior at one of the top high schools in Texas. I am 17 and of the Indian ethnicity. I live in Austin Texas, 10 minutes away from UT so I'm in-state obviously. My high school is one of the top feeders into UT so that should help. I am not in the top 8% so I am not an auto admit, although my 102 GPA would put me in the top 5% at other schools in my area, hopefully that highlights the rigor of my highschool and UT knows that as well. I would be applying to the McCombs school of Business. Please let me know what my chances are! Thanks!

My Info:

ACT: 32

GPA: 3.7 UW - 4.4 W

Courseload: Taken 8 AP classes so far, planning on taking 5 more next year.

SAT II: Math II 660 - US History 630 - English Lit - 600 (Taking these three again, will
probably be much higher)

Class Rank - my school does not rank outside of the top 10% but I would say I am safely in the top 25%

Extra Curricular:

Currently Interning at the District Attorney's office with the D.A. This hopefully will be a large hook mainly because of my interest in criminal law which eventually would be my interest in Law School. I deal with multiple criminal cases there and receive large amounts of experience there.

3 Year Varsity Lacrosse - Lettered 3 Years

Eagle Scout

National Merit Commended Scholar

N.H.S

Model U.N

Debate

Over 50 hours volunteering at community library

Rec Letters - Planning on getting them from my AP Comparative Governement teacher and my AP Physics B teacher. Also will get one from my counselor but this is a little tricky because she is retiring this summer so she is not writing letters...so I'll just get to know my new counselor as soon as possible

Hey! I am trying to get into McCombs next fall as well. I’ve done a lot of research and asked friends at UT/McCombs so maybe I can give my two cents. You have solid stats to get you into UT, but in order to increase chances of getting into McCombs I would recommend scoring at least a 1400 on your SAT(CR+M) (You didn’t post your SAT so, I am am just throwing that out there… If you already have a solid SAT score, then great.) But yeah, and on top of that just have well written essays. Good luck!

Your SAT II scores seem low, especially if you have taken the APs for those classes at a top feeder. Extracurriculars are good. I’m not sure about the ACT but I think you should be good to go with that. Good luck!

Your ACT score might be good enough, but definitely try to increase your SAT score. I came from a high school in Texas, too. I had a 2170 total on the SAT, 31 on the ACT, and was in the top 3% of my class. I got in to McCombs and BHP. If you are really worried, you can write the optional essays as well. Amazing essays can definitely help you get in.

Being only in the top 25% of you class I’d say your chances are slim. You’ve got a great resume and should do fine your first year andbe able to transfer in but being only in the top 25% really hurts you. Mccombs admits around the top 2%-5% of class ranks with exceptions for incredible students.

I’ve personally met and talked several times and worked with the Professor of Accounting at McCombs and he told me that it is close to impossible to transfer into McCombs. He said that if I didn’t get into McCombs, it would make sense to go to another University instead

I disagree. Having personally transfered into Mccombs after my freshman year I can say it is possible. You need around a 3.7 atleast to get admitted but that really isnt that hard. If you dont get in right away it would be a risk to go to UT and count on Mccombs but if you really buckle down and study and get all A’s and a few A- then you can do it. It all depends on how hard you work your first year.
