Community service
With all of the community service driven clubs and activites im in, i pretty much have community service to last forever so numerous hours of community service hours... a few organizations to give you an idea would be:
Participant in the Kravitz AIDS dance
participant in the Lewis muscular dystophy dance
participant in Sablosky Multiple Sclerosis Dance
Participant in A Walk for Israel
Participant in Living for zachary( foundation to help raise awareness of suden caridac arrest in minors)
Participant in community hunt

Employment:
currently I've gotten a job at jamba juice and have been working there for about a month
Ive worked at a restaurant called Chicago pizza kitchen for a year
Ive served as a lifeguard for a summer session
I've been a Camp counselor at Camp Chai for a summer session(summer jewish camp working with young children some with disabilities or disorders)

I know thats a lot to read but please give me my chances! The only thing I'm scared for is my rank! But I feel my other credentials should make up for that, thanks!

Your right to be worried about your rank, honestly it puts your chances at almost 0, especially being in state thats about the only thing they care about besides SAT. While they do have some applicants outside of the top 7-10% that are accepted in state, I would say that your SAT puts your out of that range as well. Unfortunantly your chances are extremelly low, I dont mean to be rude or anything just telling you the facts you wont hear from your parents. You should still apply but I would shoot to transfer after freshman year.

But won’t it help that I’m trying for non competative majors, am from an extremely competative highschool, and have do many other things going for me! I mean it’s not like I’m trying for mccombs, or cockrell or anything like that! Ive seen people with worse stats then me get in before!

Sure it definitely helps that your going for psych and not business or engineering. The competitive highschool wont help though, they are big on the whole “every public school is the same”. Are you at a private school? That might make a difference.

No I’m not… Well thanks for your input I suppose! Does anyone else have any input??

One of my friends was probably in top 15-30% of the class? I really don’t have a good idea of a range, her rank just wasn’t high. Very competitive high school, and she had TONS of extracurriculars like you. She wrote all of the essays, including the optional ones, and applied for the communications school and got in. So I think there is a change you could get in

Ooh thanks! I was thinking about communications but I heard the communication school was just really hard to get accepted into right away except for some exceptions…thanks for that input

Anyone else? Bump

Super bump! C’mon people!

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Apply.

Your stats look just fine. If you wanna re-take the SAT and do a little better that would be cool too. But you definitely have some chance of getting in… at least enough of a chance to apply. I know your rank isn’t that high, but that doesn’t automatically disqualify you. Write some bombass essays.

Btw, I have some friends in BBYO. No idea they had that all the way over at Plano

Well, I’m from Frisco, Texas. Right next to Plano. I went to Liberty. Had the close to the same stats as you except my SAT was 1980, but ACT was 27. My rank was a little higher then 15%, and I got CAP’d. My choices were Psychology and Natural Science… I think.

My friend however got into UT and he was in the 22% and had lower scores than me, but he got into Visual and Performing Arts or something. He just transfered immediately to COLA when possible and now he is majoring in Economics. So if you’re scared… you can put a super easy major like that as your 2nd choice and maybe you’ll get lucky and get in. Cause everyone I know was like “***?? HOW’D YOU GET IN AND I DIDNT!”

I got in as a transfer for this upcoming fall, so it was no big deal in the end. And I’m sorry you went to Plano. I know it’s even more competitive than Frisco. Honestly, this area sucks eggs. Too competitive and hard >.<

AND MAKE SURE YOU APPLY AS SOON AS YOU CAN. LIKE ON THE FIRST DAY THE APPLICATIONS OPEN.

@johnnyzxz yah I’m retaking it in October! And no way! Bbyo pride  thanks for the input and yah I’ve been told that I’m a really good writer so I hope that helps!@pjLloyd100 thanks for the input and yah that’s what I plan on doing(applying to something easy for my second choice) why do we live here! It’s dumb:( lol like social work as my second choice considering that I have so much volunteer cred/clubs and such:) I really hope I get in! This has been my dream school for as long as I can remember!

Oh and I go to bbyo in dallas not in Plano but yah:)

I live in your area so I am familiar with your HS :).

Your application will go through holistic review process: [Application Review | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/freshmen/after-you-apply/review)

The area you want to put a lot of emphasis on is personal achievement- briliant essays as well as recommendations from someone who knows your personality and achievements very well. You are taking lots of AP courses senior year. Good for you! Try hard and get good grades. UT will continue to accept and review your transcript even if you have submitted everything. That means you can send in your senior fall semester’s grades in January 2013 for acceptance consideration.

It may not be wise to go for a major that will give you a “better chance” to be admitted. What happens if you find out you don’t like that major?! If you transfer from one major to another or from one college to another at UT, chances are it will take more than four years to graduate. So apply to a major that really interests you! Impressive art courses you have taken. Any chance you want to major in that area?

BTW, how was the AP American Studies for you? I see it was one of your first AP courses. Did you do well on the AP exam?

Hi @serenade135! It’s good to hear from someone do helpful:) you seem really nice and that helped a lot! Did you get admitted to UT? And I don’t want to major in art… I mean I love art yes, but it’s not what I want to do with my life! I actually really want to go to law school. I mean isn’t college all about exploring your options though? I feel like with ap credit and also I plan on doing things in the summer in my local community college to get by with some credits, I’ll be ok:) plus I mean the first year is mostly core credit isn’t it? So I won’t really be behind! I mean my sister went to ut and she switched from the natural science school to liberal arts her junior year and we have practically the same credentials. And I looveddd American studies but really only becuase I was blessed with such great teachers:) with American studies I took both the us history and english language ap tests and got 4’s on both so that’s good:) anyway it be nice to hear some feedback thanks

Bump anyone?

Communications is a restricted major, it is not that easy to get in with lower rank unless you show a lot of related activities, achievements, work experience etc (magazine publications, movie festival awards, UIL state in writing, related resume 3 pages long etc)

Fine Arts has audition/portfolio/interview requirements. This is how you can get accepted with lower rank.

COLA would be most likely capped.

With hiphop awards the best chance would be to audition for dance and change major. You can change major to COLA during summer orientation.

get really good recommendation letters. i transferred from a community college close to you and i got into ut austin. i never even finished high school. my SAT was 2170 or 2270 i think, but transfers aren’t required to provide that information, so ut doesn’t even know my scores. i think at the time i applied my gpa was around 3.8 at the community college. i got 3 recommendation letters: one from the president of my college, one from a former teacher who is somewhat of a politician/celebrity and well-known philanthropist who also teaches at uta, and one from the honor society i am in.

retake your SATs, get recommendation letters from people who matter, and keep your grades up/improve them if you can. i think you’d have a good chance then.

Thanks for the input:) anyone else?
