Stanford will look at your Freshman year grades. Great scores otherwise! EC’s are okay; a lot of people will have similar EC’s if not more. I’d say it’s a very high reach for Stanford but the rest of them you have a really good shot at.

Thanks for replying

I think Stanford and the UCs are some of the few schools that don’t look at freshman grades if I’m not mistaken…

But EC wise, I really didn’t want to spread myself too thin. Like if you have 10+ EC’s, how do you stay dedicated to all of them??? I have other clubs that I am a part of but I really don’t care about them…so I should list them anyways??? I wasn’t planning to

Also, should I write down that I am an avid skateboarder? I don’t want colleges to throw out my application because of the “thug” reputation of skaters, especially in my area.

Stanford is a reach for anybody. That being said you scores are fantastic! Keep up the work, write solid essays and make sure your recommendations are strong and you should be a strong contender. Good luck! Also if you have time please chance me. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1357249-what-my-chances-swarthmore.html

Hmm, I guess what I mean by more EC’s is more developed EC’s. e.g. getting state/national awards in club competitions. And, UCs ignore freshman year but Stanford does not.

That could be a great essay topic: an avid skateboarder that should not be misunderstood as some “thug” if you will; instead you’re a bright student who loves to volunteer at a hospital and at your brother’s school for autistic children.

Ah I see…thanks :)

Any other opinions would be appreciated so much!!!

You have a solid shot anywhere you apply, but realize that Stanford and Brown are toss ups even for the most talented individuals. Applying EA will definitely be to your advantage though.

So…

are you suggesting that I should apply to more top schools???/

(Columbia, UPenn, Amherst…etc???)

You have excellent SAT scores and a good Gpa. Your EC’s also look solid. Stanford is next to impossible to tell if you will be admitted, the top schools are often very unpredictable, but otherwise you should get in. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice!!
