Chance me

Greetings! First off, I have to say to OP, please, for your own good, ignore any rude or off topic remarks in this thread. You come off as very professional in this post, and it is unfortunate you have so many rude people commenting.

Now, to the meat of your application:

Strengths: I think it goes without saying, but your GPA is superb. Though you have one B, you still have a great transcript (assuming you are taking the most difficult classes your school offers – context is important). Especially if you are within the top 5% or so of your class, you should stand out academically. And, I’ll discuss your EC’s latter in this post, but you clearly do how a large amount of dedication to your EC’s, and colleges always prefer quality over quantity. On a side note, I want to congratulate you on registering 1000 voters; I myself have spent countless hours registering voters, and I know how long it can take!

Toss-Ups: In analyzing your application, there are a lot of toss ups for me, things that I don’t really call strengths but don’t call weaknesses. First off, your standardized test scores. Though they aren’t stellar, I am of the opinion that they are good enough for either of the institutions you listed. You are barely in the 25-75 percentile for scores at Duke, but in it regardless, and you easily beat the average score at UT Austin (the average out of state score there is a 1914). You should try and improve your scores on your October test, but if you end up not improving your super score, don’t worry too much; your scores are good enough for either Duke or UT Austin.

Your EC’s as a whole are a tossup to me. You certainly don’t have very many EC’s, but what you have is strong. Perhaps the more concerning thing to me, though, is that none of your EC’s match up with your intended major. This is a minor flaw, but it will make it more difficult to provide evidence that you really are interested in becoming a doctor.

Weaknesses: I don’t really see any major flaws in your application, to be honest. The only possible one I could see is your AP’s. Having only taken 3 AP classes is pretty light compared to several other applicants to Duke, at least. However, this only counts as a weakness if your school offers several AP courses, or if most of the AP courses your school offers are intended for seniors. Colleges look at context, so they won’t penalize you if your school had very few AP course for you to choose from. I’ve actually only taken 3 AP classes myself, so I know what it feels like if your school doesn’t offer those courses.

All in all, I say that you should get into UT Austin fairly easily, and Duke is a low to mid reach, probably closer to the mid reach side of things. Make sure to apply to at least one safety, just in case everything goes wrong, but I do have a hard time imagining you not getting into UT Austin.

If/when you have time, I’d appreciate a chance back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1368810-chanes-hys-among-others-thanks.html</a> . Thanks and best of luck!
