Chance me!

University of Michigan is my dream school, and if I get accepted, I will do whatever it takes to get there. Anyway, here's my stats:

Out of state, from Texas. I go to a highly competitive high school here.

I haven't calculated my weighted GPA yet, but my GPA is a 4.2 right now.
At my school, 4.0 = maximum for regulars, 4.5 = honors, 5.0 = AP classes
I've taken 7 AP classes so far in 3 years. I'm taking 5 more this year.

SAT scores: 2120 (Reading: 690, Math: 760, Writing: 670). I'm retaking it in October.

SAT subject: Math: 750, Planning on taking biology and physics in November. I know UM doesn't care much for subjects though.

ACT score: 30 (English: 31, Math: 33, Reading: 32, Science: 24)

I participate in Science Fair every single year, & I make it to the regional level (no HUGE wins though)

Piano player for 11+ years

This past summer, I was accepted into the UTD nanoexplorers program - really prestigious research institute internship

Top 6% of my graduating class (rank 88 out of 1,311)

Clubs: Science Fair, NHS, Spanish Club

Won a few awards in high school for filmmaking/video contests.

I'm doing early decision, so the deadline is November 1.

I'm planning on applying to LS&A. Not sure about my major yet...probably biomedical sciences or something.

I'm also going to bother my admissions counselor incessantly with questions so that he recognizes my name!
I don't really know how i'm going to get this message across to the admissions people (probably through my essays), but i'm an extremely independent, determined individual. I always find a way to get what I want. I never ever give up. I flew to Michigan a few weeks ago, all by myself, with my own money, and found my own accommodations and lived on Central Campus for a whole week. I have a bunch of friends in MI, but I made a ton of new friends in AA. And I think I met one of the football players...which was cool.

You’re a very good candidate. Send in your SAT and not your ACT, as your 1450 SAT (Math + Reading) score is about equivalent to a 32. 30 is still good but would actually bring the rest of your resume down.

I don’t think you have to worry about pestering your admissions counselor or trying too hard to get any messages across in your essays. Just write what feels natural and write it well. You’re a strong match for UM.

I remember you from your posts earlier in the summer. I’m glad you solved your dilemma and made it to Ann Arbor. The story of your dilemma would make an interesting essay because it involved a lot of problem solving. I agree with entendu that I would send in the SAT vs. the ACT. It would help to know your unweighted GPA. If it is higher than 3.7 I would consider you a match. Good luck.
