Hey so I am going to be a senior this upcoming school year and here are my stats:

GPA: 3.52 UW, 4.3 W
ACT: 33
SAT: not sending
SAT2: 780 Math 2, 730 Biology
APs: Calc AB(5), U.S. Government(4), Chinese (5), Calc BC (5), Calc AB Subscore(5), Psychology (3), Biology(4), U.S. History(5)

EC:
-Salvation Army (Freshman)
-Model UN: Spring Coordinator (Sophmore-Senior)
-local tutoring club: president (Junior-Senior)
-Volunteer trip to an impoverished part of China to teach kids music and art

Colleges applying to:
1. Swarthmore (ED)
2. University of Virginia (EA)
3. University of Maryland College Park (EA)
4. U.C. Berkeley
5. Haverford College
6. NYU
7. Georgetown
8. Cornell
9. Princeton (yolo)

Alright so I will try and help (I can help with at least the LACs/I also plan to apply to Swarthmore ED). I could be wrong, but I believe applying EA to schools will violate your ED contract, so I would look into that before you apply.

Your GPA is low for Swarthmore, Haverford, Georgetown, Cornell and Princeton. The fact that your test scores are high and your GPA is not implies that you are lazy/trying hard in school (I could be wrong, but that is what is associated with a low GPA and high scores). For all those schools you would want to have a 3.9+ (maybe a 3.8). I would identify one or two of those which you are most interested in attending and apply to them as your reaches and remove the rest from your list. For the top tier schools your EC’s are also weak, you have nothing that you did all four years of high school and minimal leadership and community service.
Sorry if that is not what you wanted to hear, but I hope this helps!
Oh two other things, if i remember the stats for Maryland correctly it is a match for you and if you are set on applying to Swarthmore focus on your “Why Swarthmore” essay.

Thanks for your honesty! Yeah my GPA is really low due to some personal problems my junior year, but I cannot change that now. I actually do have a lot of volunteering. That volunterr trip to China took almost half a year of preparation with numerous bake sales and other fundraising events not to mention the actual trip itself. And I was wondering does it count if I did choir and my school’s Humanities program for all four years?

I forgot to mention that I also do NHS, volunteered at the University of Maryland Medical school, and will have an internship at a local business

is there really no one else?

NHS is generally viewed as unimportant and if you have not started your internship by the time you apply ED it will not help. Yes, choir and your schools humanities program count as ECs. That being said if you were not really involved, have basically no hours and/or no leadership positions (my guess is that would not apply for choir) it may not be worth mentioning.

updated version and please chance me:

Hey so ur gpa is a little low for some of the colleges you listed. The weighted is great. Your ec’s are diverse and good and your act is way awesome. I don’t know if you’ll make Berkeley or Georgetown or John Hopkins . Your act gives u a good chance . But u can make Maryland colleg park and possibly William and Mary. Your act gives u a good chances at some of these schools. Good luck

thanks! yeah i kinda screwed my gpa up
hopefully its not the only thing college look at

Like the others said, but maybe in your essays show them you are not lazy. That you have been trying and you said something about personal problems. Good Luck!Hope you get in!

yeah my dad got ill when i started high school…thanks!

o also my school is extremely competitive top public schools (according to washington post we are top 300 out of 27000) and i think it’s at least top 20 in my state

I think Swarthmore is a bit of a reach but if it’s your first choice then go for it. I think the best thing you can do is look into more schools between haverford and berkeley and some of your safeties (places like macalester or cmc) just to be sure you have options even if you don’t get into any of your reaches

Even tough your gpa is a little low your ACT score might compensate it , also your EC’s are not very strong but if i believe that you should apply to Swarthmore if you really want to attend that school, write a killer essay and hope for the best, don’t forget to apply to a couple of safeties. Best of luck to you.
