Let’s hope they really like my essay’s and recs because from what I heard Amherst really puts emphasis on those areas.

bump bump bump

Are you sure about not being fast enough to swim at Amherst? The swim team is good for Div. III, but that could be your hook.

Don’t even bother about even thinking about swimming at Amherst unless you have Jr. Nat cuts already (and real Jr. Nat cuts – not NCSA cuts). Yea, Amherst swims in DIII, but they’re always in the top five at NCAAs. Seriously, they’re fast.

Yeah, I definitely was not planning on getting recruited to swim in college because I know I am not good enough. I just included my swimming accomplishments because it is a big part of my life and extracurricular activities that lead to ideas like including a swimathon event to raise money for local food pantries. I created this thread mainly to see if i had a chance at getting into Amherst based on academics.

baseballf973,

To be sure, your HS swimming remains an extra-curric. My only point was that unless you are an actively recruited swimmer it won’t serve as an admission “hook.” On the academic front, your test scores jump out to me as below Amherst’s threshold. If you can re-take, you should.
