Essays are going very well right now but they're not ready to be submitted yet. I love Tulane and its location and hopefully I'll receive a letter of acceptance in december!

You obviously have the credentials. The key for you is to make sure Tulane knows they are your top choice, or at least top 3. Because without making that clear in your “Why Tulane” essay, it might appear you are using Tulane as more of a back-up plan, with your actual plan to attend a school that is even more selective. Last year, at least, many students that had similar stats to you and did not do anything to show Tulane they really were seriously thinking about going there (didn’t visit the school or attend a local event, didn’t do the “Why Tulane” essay, didn’t communicate with their admissions officer) usually got wait-listed.

However, if you are really serious about the school, and it sounds like you are, make sure they know that and I would think you would not only get accepted but would also get a nice merit scholarship offer. You have the grades and difficult courses, the strong ACT score (unfortunately for you they do not superscore the ACT but your S score sure fluctuated!), lots of ECs including a strong interest (and presumably talent) in music, and the whole URM/first generation for college thing going for you. What state are you from?

I’m from the good ole state of Illinois!
