AFTER Nov 1? Why on earth would you NOT apply by Nov 1?

It is NOT a commitment and does NOT interfere with any ED pledge you sign with any other school.

However, if you apply AFTER Nov 1, you will NOT be eligible for ANY merit money. Period. End of story.

Also, I believe you will not be eligible for any special programs like College Park Scholars and Honors.

From the Honors info page, “High School Seniors - Apply to University of Maryland by November 1 to be considered for the Honors College and merit scholarships! Note that this is a priority deadline and therefore does not conflict with early action or early decision at most other schools.”

On the College Park Scholars page, if you look at the timeline for “invited students” you will receive notification of your invitation the first week of February (still has 2012 dates, but still makes my point), which means eligibility is considered only for those who applied by Nov. 1st.

To the best of my knowledge, the only special living-learning communities that you can participate in by applying after November 1 are FLEXUS (female engineers) and VIRTUS (male engineers) which are only for students accepted to the A. James Clark School of Engineering, and have a separate application in the spring for admitted students.

While you may not care about special programs, why would you not want to be considered for merit money?

If you are concerned that you didn’t give your high school enough notice to send out transcripts or letters of recommendation (most seem to ask for 2 weeks’ notice), talk to them because while they may not advertise it or like to do it, in a pinch, they can usually make it happen…

DO NOT WAIT - APPLY BY NOV 1st!!!
