This year, more than previous years, numbers (GPA and test scores) have not been as vital to an applicant as ECs and especially Essays

I’ll be up front with you and tell you your GPA is relatively low. Of course, it is not the best nor the worst GPA an applicant will have when applying.

Your tests scores are good. Again, they may not be great (2100 or something like that) but they’re not bad.

Your ECs are important but your essays must make your application and show your interest and personal growth.

I have seen more 1900s with Great essays get into top schools than 2400s with mediocre, essays.

You have a shot and I hope you end up in a school you will be happy in, dream school or not.

FraNeighbor,
I’m intrigued with your statement that this year numbers aren’t quite as vital, as opposed to previous years. I hope that is so true because my stats are so-so, but I do think I am well rounded in other ways on my application.
What information do you have that leads you to say that this year may be different? Just curious, and thanks for the info.
To jrusso, OOS to UNC is so very difficult so please be sure to have the whole spectrum of schools you can expect in line–reaches, expected’s, and safeties. Best of luck to you.

Hey! I’m a current student at UNC and I’ll be straight up with you. Getting in OOS is extremely difficult. I’ve seen people with some of the most amazing stats and extracurriculars get denied. You absolutely have a chance, but don’t be discouraged if you are not accepted, as it is much harder to get in OOS than in-state. Let me know if you have any questions!
