chance me

ok so these are my safeties... im getting really paranoid and have already crossed of my matches and my reaches so...
illinois
syracuse
osu
miami u -ohio
usfca

Intl student - india
SAT - 2180 (800 m, 700 wr, 680 cr)
SAT 2 - 800 m2, 650 ush
TOEFL - 110
HS % - 50 % in senior yr midterms, Bs and Cs in junior yr, As in freshman & sophomore
ECs - good (w/50+ volunteer hours and paid interns)
Teacher recs - great
Counselor rec - no idea honestly but it shd be good.

Are my grades too low?? will i get rejected??

your grades would be the only thing that would get you rejected in my opinion. you should be solid though. good luck!

thx so much

Your grades are weak but those schools aren’t really too picky. I think with your score you should be pretty good getting in. Although you’re international and the problem with that can be money - if you have a higher income you have a better chance.

im rich enough  money aint a thang. the schools are my safeties (prolly why they arent so picky). thank u so much.

your grades show a downward turn which isn’t a great sign but with the overall average and your SAT scores you shouldn’t have too much trouble. like mentioned above these schools aren’t that selective and will probably admit you. what are your reaches or matches you are applying? love your safeties!

thanks lucy2323

Reaches:
Duke (really messed this application up. its a shame always loved the blue devils)
Columbia (legacy)
Wesleyan
Vanderbilt
WUSTL
Northwestern
UChicago
USC
CMU
Emory

Matches:
UVA (im not in-state so this is more like a reach)
UNC (same as above)
UMich
NYU
GWU
UMiami

i cant even apply for more because of a non-cooperative school and the commonapp limit. not applying for aid tho.

The only thing that will hold you up is your grades. But the internships and the fact that you got an 800 Math and took the SAT 2 shows that you are college ready. I think you have a strong chance!

thank u so much!

Your great SAT scores and volunteer work should compensate for the drop in the grades, you should have a good chance!

thank u!!!

Yeah, I agree. The bad part is that your grades declined as opposed to increasing as you got older. Regardless, I am sure you will be accepted into some good schools that look past this

thank u!!!

Duke - Low to Mid Reach
Columbia - Low Reach (If legacy is considered)
Wesleyan - High Match/Low Reach
Vanderbilt - High Match
WUSTL - Dunno!
Northwestern - Mid Reach
UChicago - Low Reach
USC - High Match
CMU - High Match
Emory - Dunno!!

Matches:
UVA - High Match
UNC - High Match
UMich - High Match
NYU - Match (if not Stern)
GWU - No Idea
UMiami - Low Match
illinois - Match(if UIUC) or Low Match (if UIC or Springfield)
syracuse - Safety to Low Match
osu - Safety
miami u -ohio - Safety
usfca - Safety to Low Match

Haha!! My SAT I score is the same. 780/760 in SAT IIs. So pretty similar to you!!
My grades are slightly better off but still bad!! And I’m an Indian applying for aid! No paid internship but more volunteer work and commendable ECs!!
So we are in the same boat!! :)

Too many safeties for you. I would have pick one or two safeties and save myself the time, effort and money.

I mostly agree with the poster above.

You’re good for the safeties. A high SAT should outshine lower grades for these schools.
Good luck!

Illinois - 47.58%

If you are international student and no aid then illinois- 20.34%

I agree with NobleFlaire that you have too many safeties. I would like to recommend that you focus on Miami University (Ranked #3 by US News “Best Undergraduate Teaching”, [Best Undergraduate Teaching | Rankings | Top National Universities | US News](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/undergraduate-teaching)) and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, which offers strong programs in engineering (if you are considering this direction, since math is your strong suit).

As an international student without the need of financial aid, you have great chances get into all the schools on your match list, not to mention the safeties. For your reach schools, I think you probably can get into USC without much problem. USC always welcomes international students with open arms.

^ Haha, such a genius!! You even added decimals!! :P

Illinois will not be a safety if you intend on doing STEM majors, epecially Engineering or CS.
U of I acceptance difficulty varies by declared major which is required on the aplication. You can be a “C” student for some but you have to be brilliant to get into BioMed Eng. They don’t give a hoot about EC’s, essay, etc. It’s purely about SAT/ACT+GPA.
