Chance me?

I am a white jewish male living in suburban NJ. My freshman year I did awful with a 3.1 gpa unweighted, but I was able to get it up to a 3.5 unweighted. I will be majoring in computer science. I'm aware I don't that I probably don't have much of a chance, but I'd like to see if it's even worth applying...

I got a 710 for math, 660 for reading and 640 for writing on the SAT. ACT I haven't taken but I expect a 29~31ish. Here are my EC activities and honors/ap classes

Classes:
Honors Lit)dropped out at end of freshman year, got a C+( did very poorly freshman year overall)
AP Lit(went back junior year)
APUSH
AP German
AP comp sci
AP Psychology
AP Macroeconomics
Honors pre calc
AP calc

EC activities:
best tennis player in school of 2800
varsity cross country
FBLA
German Honor's Society
Key club
Make a wish club( gf dragged me to the last two clubs i mentioned, lol)
Full time lifeguard over summer
100 hours of community service helping disabled children to swim and a little at a food bank

Should I even bother applying? I feel like comp sci here is very competitive. Do I have any chance? Thanks for reading and thanks in advance, everyone.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Apply apply!

Your GPA is not great, but that’s not an automatic rejection. A 2010 is a respectable score. I got a 1980 and was accepted this year EA.

Apply for the school and see how it goes. You don’t lose anything by applying. You have a chance. The only way you have a 0% chance is if you don’t apply.

Thanks for replying, man. My parents are only letting me apply to 5 colleges.

CMU(reach, not applying for CS Also bear in mind I have a 3.7 without freshman year)
Rutgers(safety because I live in NJ)
Penn State
Michigan(same situation as CMU)

Do you think I have a 50/50 chance for georgia tech?

Your scores are in range! It’s only your GPA that hurts you. As long as you get great ACT scores and do a great essay, along with writing great explanations for your ECs and how they changed you, you should have at least a 50/50

OK thanks man. I think it also helps that I went from 3.1 to 3.5, then 3.8+ in junior and senior year. Thanks for the help!

rreynard112 - You mention in your last post that you are a senior. The application deadline for Fall 2013 admission to GA Tech was Jan. 10.

I plan on getting a 3.8+ senior year.I have had no problem getting it junior year.
