If you have any suggestions, let me know. American University is my top choice school and I already did a college visit on Spring Break. I email my admissions counselor regularly and I attended the regional admissions events. The college said they admit students that show interest in the school.

I think those who frequent this forum believe chance threads are a waste of time. If you want useful information instead of meaningless opinions, look at AU’s 2012-2013 Academic Data Reference Book, which you can search for on the AU website. It has the facts about the credentials of students who were actually admitted. You can compare yourself to them and do your own chancing.

Showing interest in AU is an important factor in admissions, but it won’t get someone admitted who is not otherwise qualified. Your visit and participation in regional events are quite adequate to show interest. I think emailing your adcom “regularly” could be more annoying than helpful. (Imagine if every student interested in AU did that!) Save your emails for times when you have an important question or concern.

OP, I think you have a very good chance of admission to AU based on what you have posted. However, I am not sure what effect going test-free will have on your application. Please check the resource suggested by MommaJ…

Also, talk to your parents and the financial aid department about covering the expenses for AU–it is not a cheap school! I believe that I read that students who do not submit test scores are not eligible for merit awards.

If you think the money things will work out for you, and you are sure AU is your first choice, apply ED–with its very favorable admission rate–and you will be likely to enjoy most of your senior year. That is what my son did. He was very sure that AU was his first choice, and even though AU was a match/safety for him based on his grades, curriculum, scores and ECs, he applied ED because he did not want to take any chances, and because he wanted to be one, done, and enjoying his senior year.

I agree with boysx3. My daughter applied ED. She visited a lot of schools and was very sure that AU was her first choice. It was a match school for her but far from a safety. Applying ED along with showing strong interest worked. Plus it had the added benefit of allowing her to enjoy second semester of her senior year mostly stress free. That being said, if you are not very sure or if finances are a major factor, you are better off going RD and showing strong interest to keep options open.
