UC Irvine
What are my chances at these schools?

Not sure about the first 3 schools, but you have a pretty good chance of getting into UC Irvine! A ton of people from my school got accepted there this year with so-so GPAs and SAT scores. Make sure to write good personal statements and try to raise your GPA! Your SAT score is already great for Irvine.

Thank you! I was thinking about writing about why I received a low GPA freshman year for my essay.

Your freshman year GPA isn’t ridiculously low - UCs mostly look at sophomore/junior grades, anyways. You could mention it in the “additional comments” section of the application but talk it over with a counselor or someone else experienced in doing apps first! It could be a good explanation, but it may also draw unnecessary attention to a weaker part of your app, so be careful if you’re going to do that.

What you truly need to work on is that Sat Verbal score. 640 is the bottom 25 percentile for Emory. You should strive for this threshold. Not sure about the level of involvement in ECs so I won’t comment. They do seem to be medical in nature, so that could give you a boost at Emory.

Georgia Tech - match
UGA - match
Emory - low reach
UC Irvine - match

Isn’t my GPA too low for UGA and Tech? That’s what i’m most worried about. (they’re my safety schools)

Emory might be a little difficult. But I feel Georgia tech can be a match (assuming you get the 2100 obviously.)

I would say go to around like 50’s for a safety school. (again, assuming you get the 2100. anything below, id say go to 60 or below) Try Boston University (#51) as a safety.

chance me back please?

But with my current scores; would I be able to get into UGA?
Yes, I was hoping for Oxford Emory instead.

I think you’ll get into all but Emory, that will be a reach

I feel that you COULD get in, but it would not be considered a “safety” because its not 100 percent guaranteed.

here check this out.

[University of Georgia - GPA and Test Scores Needed for Admission](UGA: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA)

You have a good chance! Your very intelligent and judging from your profile, you are a good candidate. Good luck with the application and know whatever happens, you are always a winner!

I have an advantage for Tech because I’m a girl and took rigorous classes, but i’m still worried for UGA. I feel like I have more of a chance for Tech, because of my GPA.

Oh…well I’d better drop Emory from my list then.

NO! definitely don’t drop it. there is no way to completely categorize what you need in order to get into any university. sure, there’s a ballpark which you definitely are not far from. every case is looked at differently. I know people who have gotten rejected from NYU but got into Harvard. Keep it, there is still a chance.

@IHarvard: Thank you so much!! Even though I’m still worried… Good luck to you too
@Mravisetti: Oh, I see. It all seems to be random…There’s no correlation.

Emory is a reach for most, but your ECs will help. I really think you have a great shot at UC Irvine! I don’t know anything about the other schools, sorry.

Georgia Tech: match
UGA: match
Emory: reach
UC Irvine: match

You have good extracurriculars! The upward trend is great! I think you have a solid shot and at least three of those schools. HOWEVER… make sure you have a safety that you LIKE and would not mind going to (mine is VCU). The reason I say this is if you don’t get into these schools, then you need to have a backup that you like.

Yeah I chose out a community college for my safety school  But since I am doing early to UGA and Tech, I didn’t think there was a need to choose my safety school if I get in.

Anyone else please?
