First, legacy is a consideration at UF, but it’s only a very minor plus. The AO’s will down play it even more (they don’t want to discourage non-legacies), but it does help show interest (colleges like to make offers to students they think will enroll).

You should calculated your UF GPA. It uses a 4 point scale (A=4, B=3, C=2 and D=1), and gives +0.5 points to honor classes and +1 point to AP/DE/IB/AICE classes. Only include academic classes.

UF using Holistic Admissions. 50% is GPA/Test/Rigor, the other 50% is EC’s/Leadership/Essay.

Your SAT is ok, but your GPA may be a bit low(see below:Freshmen Profile). Hopefully you’ve taken a rigorous course load (for your High School), as that is something UF considers. Taking the SAT again and raising your score will help compensate a bit for your GPA, if needed (but UF does give more weight to GPA than test scores).

Your EC’s are strong and your ECs can help make up for your GPA (once again, if needed). Make sure you list ALL of your EC’s, how long you’ve been in them and how many hours a week you spend in each EC. They don’t care about the number of EC’s, as much as they want to see a commitment (4 years of Band, is better than 1 year in 4 or 5 clubs).

They also care about leadership, so stress any leadership roles you’ve taken on in high school. Don’t forget about that Essay! It counts too…

The Freshmen profile:

Mid 50% GPA: 4.1-4.5
Average GPA: 4.3
Mid 50% SAT: 1840-2100
Average SAT: 1967

If you improve your SAT a bit, and your UF GPA is around 4.0, you have a solid chance.

You should also look at some safeties, like the other state University (FSU, UNF, UCF, USF, FIU, etc.); at some of these schools you may be able to earn merit (with some improvement on your SAT). You may have to choose between UF and another state school+Honors+Merit Aid. :)

Good Luck!!
