Unweighted GPA: 3.4 (I know it is low)
Weighted GPA: 4.5

SAT: 1800 (plan to retake in October after 3 months of SAT class)

Extracurriculars:
Freshman - Sophomore Year: part of an organization called Hope for Homeless (we would pack brown bag meals for homeless and then go downtown to distribute the meals).
Spent about 6 hours per week

Junior - Senior Year: Hospital volunteer in the Child Life Department. Spend about 6-8 hours/week.

In my junior year I switched to a full-time dual enrollment high school. I go to my college classes in the morning and then my AP classes in the afternoon. Before I graduate high school I should have my AA.

I would also like to know if having the heavy course load that will allow me to get the AA degree have any impact on the admissions process?
And lastly, does being Hispanic help either?

Hi! First, see below for admission as it relates to “Concurrent High School and AA Degrees”:

“Students who will receive their high school diploma and the Associate of Arts degree at the same time should complete the freshman application. You must apply to a specific UF college and major, and you must meet college and major prerequisite course and minimum GPA requirements.”

So please look into the specific UF college and major’s requirements. Unlike a true freshmen, you have to apply to a specific college and met it’s requirements. Some UF colleges are very selective, others are not. The transfer thread would be a good place to ask any questions around applying to a specific college/major.

Your weighted GPA doesn’t match UF’s. UF gives +0.5 points for honor classes, and +1 point for AP/DE/IB/AICE. If your GPA is 3.4, your weighted GPA will be something less than 4.4. Eitherway, your GPA should be fine! Your SAT is a little low, but if you improve it a bit, you should be fine (and as an AA holder, I don’t know how much it would matter).

UF’s official policy is that if you are coming from high school with an AA you have to meet your college’s prereq/GPA requirements.

However this policy was not followed for 2013 high school graduates. In fact, barely any HSAA grads have all of their prereqs done. How do I know this? Because I went to HSAA preview, which is a different preview than for normal freshmen, and almost nobody had their prereqs finished… Also they were allowing us to switch majors.

So bottom line, if you don’t have your prereqs done, apply anyway, it probably won’t make a difference … But get as many done as you can

Anyway, assuming your UF GPA is similar to your weighted GPA, you have a decent chance as long as you raise your SAT scores a lot. Your ECs are a little weak too.

I’m sure they definitely care about your difficult course load through dual enrollment. There’s a section on the application that says something like “anything else we should know?” and in that box I wrote about how much I was able to accomplish through dual enrollment and basically reminding them how awesome it is to get my AA degree straight out of high school.
