Chance Me!

I'm wondering where exactly UIUC would fall for me, whether it's a safety or match, or w/e. I'm definitely going to go into mathematics as my major with hopes of going onto grad school, provided that money works out nicely!

I've heard that the mathematics branch is much easier to get into than the engineering, but I'm not sure how easy it is.

I have:

3.5455/4.1818 W
35 on the ACT w/o writing (writing is not required at U of I)
-36 in math
-36 in science
-35 in english
-31 in reading
My class rank is 48/514, so that means I'm in the top 10%
I've completed 6 AP classes, earning scores of 5 on Calc BC, Chemistry, and Computer Science with a 4 in English Language and Comp and 3s in Spanish and US History.
I'm taking a total of 6 AP classes this year, as well as Multivariable Calculus (Calc 3) offered through a local college.

As for ECs:
-Chess Team all four years
-Math Team all four years, and I'm the oralist this year
-Scholastic Bowl for two years, and on Varsity for both of those
-Science Club my freshman year
-Private Guitar lessons for two years
-Summer job working 24/7 for 10 weeks this past summer
-Led a Bible Study for two years
-I will be attending a program called Saturday Morning Physics at Fermilab, and completing this earns me some form of certificate
-I will also be competing in the Real World Design Program along with other classmates in my AP Physics class this year.

I'm not really sure what else SHOULD be put on ECs, partially because I'm not really sure what colleges care about in that regard.

Personally, I believe UIUC would be a safety for me, but I just want a better opinion than mine.

Also, based off my ACT and the fact that I know how well I can test, I believe that if I were to take the SAT, I could score around a 2300+

Based off these stats, would I have any chance of, say, Yale, U of C, CalTech, or Princeton? I'm pretty sure, from what I've heard, that colleges that are more prestigious like those focus more on the ECs of a student.

Just looking for opinions there, whether or not I should even consider applying.

As an alum of UIUC, I don’t think you should have much difficulty in getting in. Now while I loved math, I don’t know how UIUC compares to some of the other schools in math. Yale, UC, MIT, and Princeton are all highly competitive, and as they are highly selective, they will look at other factors other than a test score. From what I can see, the weakest part of your application is your GPA. That being said, no one can really make much sense of the admissions decisions at the most competitive schools in the country.

Yea, I knew my GPA was low, and this was the most concerning part to me. I’m really concerned about whether or not I’d be thrown out just because of that. Not at UIUC, but at other top colleges. And I’ve done a bit of research, and from what I can tell, and from what my brother can tell (he’s also a UIUC alumnus), UIUC is actually quite good with their mathematics program, especially for such a cheap college, 'cause that would also be in-state for me. If I can’t get into anything very prestigious, UIUC is my first choice.

UIUC: Low match/Match

It will be only a match to low match as Catria said. Your uwGPA is slightly below average.

Yea, I’m not too proud of that GPA, but how far below the average is that? Will it be a significant detriment to my applications?
