It is becoming increasing difficult to accurately make admission predictions to UD as the competition has been dramatically increasing over the last 5 years (at least). My best estimate would include the following:

Factors in your favor:
- Hispanic/Latino ethnicity (Make sure you note this on your application).
- Good EC’s.
- You have taken a number of Honors/AP classes (However the grades you have gotten in these courses is critical - UD likes to see few grades in these courses below a B).

Factors less in your favor:
- Your GPA is much lower than GPA’s of most students accepted to UD. If it has been steadily improving thruout HS this might help a bit.
- Your SAT/ACT scores are in the lower range of most students accepted.
- Being from NJ (the largest number of OOS applicants are from NJ).

Unfortunately the factors less in your favor are pretty significant. IMHO your chances of being accepted to UD are probably at a level which would indicate that it is going to be quite a reach for you. Again this is just my perspective. Perhaps your ethnic background will help. I’m sorry. I wish I could be more optimistic regarding your chances. Best of luck to you.

I was just wondering how my chances look of getting in as of now. I’m currently a junior, will be a 4-year varsity softball starter, in Italian club, have over 100 hours of community service and have a 3.3 GPA which is rising as well. How do my chances look?

UD places a major emphasis in their admission decisions in rigor of HS curriculum and grades in advanced courses (Honors, AP, etc.). Taking as many advanced courses as possible and getting high grades in them increases an applicant’s chances. GPA is also important as is GPA trend. UD recalculates an applicant’s GPA looking at major academic subjects (English, Math, Sciences with labs, Social Sciences, History, Foreign Languages) so you might want to recalculate your GPA looking at these areas. There might be some variation on this if you are applying for certain majors like music or art. Standardized tests scores (SAT, ACT) are also important to a degree (so the higher the better) especially for certain highly competitive majors (Chemical Engineering, Nursing and a few others) and are also of importance in the area of being awarded merit aid. I would recommend working as hard as possible to continue to improve your GPA and taking as many advanced courses as possible. It would be helpful if you could increase your GPA to at least 3.5. Also in your Senior year take 5 major courses both semesters. UD takes a dim view of students who decide to “coast” their Senior year. Good luck.
