<p>I am planning to apply to Georgia Tech, UVa, V-Tech, Georgia Tech, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Purdue, and Notre Dame.</p>

<p>I know I slacked off in school during my sophomore and junior year which really hurt my GPA. I still regret it to this day.. but its the past and I have to move on... Anyways..</p>

<p>IF I were to write a VERY GOOD college essay...</p>

<p>My GPA is slightly low.. I kind of slacked off sophomore and junior year but I'm at the verge of getting Straight A's currently (senior year) taking 5 AP classes, 1 Honors class, and 1 Elective.</p>

<p>High reach for UMich and Notre Dame. Both GPA and SAT scores are too low.
From your school list, it seems you are interested in Engineering. For that, you would need even higher scores for these schools.
Your SAT is okay for V Tech, but your GPA is far below their mid 50. You may still give it a try.</p>

<p>I would definitely apply to some other schools in addition to those because not only is your GPA on the low end but your SAT is as well. You might have a shot at Purdue…G Tech and V Tech are slight reaches, but the others will be high reaches. Definitely need to apply to some safety schools.</p>

<p>I know a guy who got into UVa last year with a stats a little below mine. Apparently he wrote an amazing essay. Do you think if I turn in a WELL-written essay, I have a good chance into UVa?</p>

<p>If you built your own computer, I really dont see a reason why they should be reaches for you. They will be low reaches, at least.</p>

<p>Your EC’s are your strong points so you need to apply to two types of schools based on those: tech schools (wpi, rennselaer, rit, rose hulman…)/ schools with engineering (your in-state engineering schools, in particular - VTech is a match) and schools with holistic admission (smaller schools where your GPA will be mitigated by your other achievements.)
UVA is a reach if not out of reach, but you can try “just to see”.
UMich is out of reach. G Tech probably too although you may have a slight chance if you’re full pay for OOS COA.</p>

<p>Does the first semester of senior year count towards my gpa? Would the colleges make a decision based on my gpa COUNTING senior year or WITHOUT?</p>

<p>Yes, first semester of senior year counts in your GPA.</p>

<p>In addition, your guidance counselor will have to send a mid year report to confirm that those first semester grades have been kept up and a final report to check that you didn’t get any D’s or F’s (which would get you rescinded, ie, even if you got in, those grades mean you “lose” your admission).</p>

<p>You need to have a more balanced list. IMHO, you have 2 safties(VTECH AND PURDUE) and then the rest are reaches. good luck!</p>
