Chance Me

Hi, I am looking for someone one to give me an idea as to where I might stand in the admission pool. Opinions would be much appreciated!

GPA: 3.83 in high school classes
GPA: 3.79 in community college classes (I took 1st year calc series and 1st year physics series and a music theory sequence)
ACT: 31

Low income (...we fluctuate from not having enough for food to having a bit more), Minority

Provided extra info- death of sibling during high school/brother with cancer (currently going thru treatments)/mother with cancer (in remission since beginning of high school)/parents divorced after death of sibling in 10th grade
^for some reason my grades stayed okay thru things. I think school was one of my ways to forget.

QuestBridge Prep Scholar & Finalist

Bilingual

Worked at coffee shop during high school to help support house and self
I also enjoyed fundraising money for the hospital and have raised over ten thousand dollars. I also mentor two younger at-risk kids in life and school. I have played piano over 10 years. I also play tennis whenever I can but tend to stay busy with work and school first. The fundraising is only about 4-5 months out of the year so it doesn't take up a majority of my time. Senior year I went to state in tennis and I didn't play tennis my 10th grade year.

I'm interested in Engineering and Music. I'm also very interested in doing research on cancer and cardiovascular disease. I liked the essays I wrote and I would say my interview went really well.

You’re probably competitive.

I refrain from saying any more because there seems to be more exceptions to rules than not, and I’m not an admissions officer, and I haven’t seen your entire application, etc.

Three years ago MITChris (from the MIT admissions office) started a thread in CC, titled: “Reminder: No one, not even me, can give you an accurate chance at MIT!”

It’s worth reading:
