10-11 UC GPA : 4.25
unweighted gpa: 3.94
SAT: 1740 (i took it again in June and i'm guessing around a 1900+ based on practice tests)
2 AP's sophomore year 4 AP's junior year and going to take 4 senior year
Chinese SAT II: 780
extra curricular: summer internship at chinese school, leo club, link crew, vp of environmental club, cm voice lvl 10, choir

I'm also in the top 9% at my school if that helps. I'm planning on only applying to UCI so would the top 9% thing guarantee me?

forgot to mention I’m interested in majoring in environmental science and maybe minor in public health.

IF you are in the top 9%, it will guarantee that if you do not get into a UC of your choice, you will be accepted at UC which has been UC Merced. Your SAT is low for UCI but your GPA and EC’s look good. You might want to volunteer this summer in an area related to your intended major and hopefully your June SAT is higher.
Good Luck.

i just got my sat scores and I got a 2120 (CR: 700 M:680 W:740). Would it be safe to ONLY apply to Irvine?

With a 2120 and your gpa you’re a shoe in, guaranteed. I got in this year with a 3.5 and 1850. Don’t only apply to UCI though, you have a good chance for UCB, UCLA etc.

You are never a shoe in for any college. If you look at the acceptance thread, you will see posts from many kids with your stats that were rejected. It’s foolish to only apply to one college. That’s putting all of your eggs in one basket.

I would apply to at least 5-6 schools and include at least 2 safeties where you know you are a “shoe in” academically and able to afford financially. I would include UCSC/UCR as possible Matches/Safeties. Also your in-service area Cal State would make a good safety.

Okay thanks! How exactly does the 9% thing work then? Will I get into a UC guaranteed even if I didn’t apply to it or do I have to apply to the UC to get in?

If you do not get into your UC of choice, you should get an email from UC Merced stating that you are ELC eligible and they will accept your application. I have not personally seen the email, but I have known a student which received it this year.
