And, finally, I plan to major in econ w/ a concentration in accounting. Honest thoughts, please? And do I have a shot of winning any of their scholarships?

1) Scholarships for OOS students are very few. Cal Poly SLO is a Cal State funded by the tax payers of California. If you are OOS, you will be expected to be full pay.
2) Is your SAT score out of 1600 or 2400?
3) Your GPA is competitive but you need to calculate your CSU GPA. SLO will use your 9th grades also in the calculation and you can only get the extra honors points for AP classes take 10-11th. OOS students honors classes do not count.

SLO also uses a computer algorithm of bonus points for extra Math/Science/Language/English/Art classes taken, see link:

If you maximize the bonus points, that will help boost your application.

If SAT is out of 1600 with your GPA, I would say a High Match. You would definitely add diversity to the campus, but if you need financial aid, you will get very little.
If SAT is out of 2400 with your GPA, then it is a Reach.

Ok that’s good to know. My SAT is out of 1600

If Poly is your dream school then apply ED. The read is littered with those who did not, only to get rejected while simultaneously getting accepted to UCB and UCLA. They come to this forum to bitterly complain about how they were rejected by the “lesser” school. If it’s your dream school, apply ED.

As for money, as @Gumbymom says, it’s tight at Poly. My son did get some as an out of strater, but his GPA and SAT were higher. What you have though that he does not is diversity. Being an underrepresented minor (frequently seen as URM here) can open more doors than just good academics.

Good luck. It’s a great school.
