Last year, SMU’s average ACT was a 29 (mid 50%: 28-31) and the average un-weighted GPA was a 3.5 out of 4.0 (mid-50%: 3.3-3.7) with a heavy advanced curriculum (AP/Honors/IB/DC). In addition to the academic profile, the Committee also takes into consideration student involvement and leadership, essay, and recommendation letters in this holistic review process. A strong candidate for acceptance will be competitive across all of these areas.

SMU awards scholarship according to academic performance (GPA, test scores, and curriculum) and considers the entire applicant pool in making their decisions. Typically, the top 40% of students are awarded scholarship. Last year, the school gave out around $88 million in scholarship money and about 80% of SMU students are receiving some form of financial support to attend the university.
