Chance Me

Hey all, my app tracker still says that all my materials have been received and I’m a little worried. Chance me pls.

I applied CLA and put down that I was undecided but that I would like to go into medicine.

Oh and I got invited to a dinner reception by an admissions officer for UMNTC and I quickly mentioned that I did on my application before sending it in. I don’t know if that might influence the decision.

Give me an honest chancing, 0% to 100%, how likely do you think it is that I will get in?

By the way I participated in a few more clubs that I didn’t include up there ^^^. But I did include them on my app.

It’s a complete guess, but I’d say 50/50. UMinn leans heavily on stats for admissions decisions, so your GPA is going to hurt your overall application. Your ACT score is right at the average for CLA, so that’s probably a push on overall effect on your app. First-gen status will give you a little boost, and UMinn is big on diversity so being AA will help your overall chances. Your ECs are solid, but probably won’t have much influence on their final decision. CLA or CFANS would be your best chances for admission, so you’re aiming for the right college.

I don’t know what UMinn has done in the past with “on the bubble” applicants as far as deferrals/wait-list/rejections go and you didn’t mention how early you applied, but to be honest the longer they sit on your application the likelihood of a straight-up acceptance decreases. Have you called the Admissions Office and asked them for an update?

Good Luck to you!!

I went ahead and entered your stats on Parchment.com, and it gave you an 88% chance of admission based on your ACT and GPA alone. You’re still very much in the running!

If it makes you feel any better, your ACT is right on target. The GPA is a little low, but I know people who have been admitted with an ACT as low as 24 (which I would guess is about equivalent to a lower GPA). A B average is still good, and I think you have a chance.

However, you could be kept out if you submitted your application after the priority deadline. I know a boy who had a 4.0 UW GPA in an AP courseload, with a great ACT score, who didn’t make it because he applied later. After the priority deadline, admissions seem to be given on a “first come, first served” kind of basis.

Good Luck!
