I am currently a junior, what do you think my chances of getting into the Mendoza College of Business are? Feel free to be brutally honest.
I have a weighted average of 3.3 ( i got all As my freshman year and 2 Ds and 1 C my sophomore year)
My SAT score is a 2000
I am on my schools varsity dance team for all of my high school career.
I have close to 500 hours of volunteer work.
I teach dance at the summer camp run at my church.
I teach dance on the weekends at my church.
I am an active member of LEO club(through this i volunteer a lot and tutor kids)
I used to be a competitive dancer(i had to quit bc of my grades)
I am well aware that i fall far below the average notre dame student but would it be possible to get accepted if i continue to work hard this year and retake the sats and send in good semester one grades my senior year? Also would it help to get in touch with my regional admissions adviser?
thanks!
Mendoza is going to be extremely competitive. As of right now, your SAT is good! You should try to definitely get it higher and possibly try out the ACT to see if you do better. Your GPA, honestly, needs to be raised. I don’t know if you have the ability to retake classes, but if that’s an opportunity, I would advise you to. My sister had a few C’s and D’s and ended up retaking the classes online and got A’s in them and raised her GPA .5 points. If that’s not an opportunity, just make sure to do really well in a challenging curriculum these next semesters. An upward trend is definitely a positive thing in admissions.
Make sure to get some awards/offices in your extracurricular activities that would show your leadership/character. Make sure to work really hard on your essays too - they are really important and will show who you are in the admissions process.
Good luck with your college admissions next year - feel free to message me if you have any questions!
I would suggest definitely raising your sat scores. Notre Dame’s median sat score as of last year was 1430(cr+math) and I am pretty sure that the median rose this year by at least 30 points.
Far as ECs go, you seem to be up to par! Good job! Going into senior year, I suggest that you try to gather leadership positions in the activities you truly care about!
Lastly, start working on your essays early, preferably in the summer! I had countless drafts of all my notre dame essays. Downloading the Google docs app and working on my essays during free time (school) helped.
Believe in yourself and trust your ability and the hard work you had put in! Don’t compare yourself to others and be proud of your accomplishments!
Good luck!
Honestly, I think it’s very unlikely for you to get accepted. Your GPA is far below average (also that’s not even unweighted) and your application (as it stands) lacks any stand out characteristics. If you improve your grades and test scores your chances will be much better. But if I were an admissions counselor I would be concerned about your ability to academically succeed at Notre Dame. And as a current student there I can tell you that getting in isn’t the hard part, it’s keeping up with the work and doing well once you’re there.
