I was accepted SCEA and we have pretty similar stats! You also have some great additional factors that I didn’t have, so I’d say you have an excellent chance. Good luck!
I think your chances look very strong. It doesn’t sound like you will have trouble convincing Tulane it is your top choice given your family history. Still, I would go SCEA in your case. I think it nearly cements all the right check boxes for you. Be sure to attend the local Tulane session in the fall. If you could somehow get your ACT up to a 31+ or your SAT to a 2100+, you would improve your chances for merit $$, if that is important to you.
@fallenchemist Thanks for they reply. Do you happen to know how much chances are increased by applying SCEA? I’m hesitant because what if I don’t get in and then have to apply Regular for all other schools, which significantly decreases chances for admission?
You have a point. I think in your case you already have a very strong record and family connection that says Tulane all over it, so maybe SCEA isn’t going to change that so much. Better to maximize your chances with your other applications as well. You have the academic stats to get in (while your ACT is at the 25th percentile, I think your SAT is close to the average score, and your GPA and AP record shows you performed well with a challenging schedule), I assume your high school has a good track record for college prep, and your EC’s look well rounded and strong. I usually encourage people that know Tulane is their #1 to go SCEA, but I am thinking in your case it won’t actually add that much to your chances because they are already excellent.
I’m an incoming freshman with a very similar profile as yours. I had a 1990 SAT/3.8 UW GPA (albeit I took 3-4 IB/AP classes junior and senior year). I’d honestly be surprised if you didn’t get in. And if I were to take a shot in the dark, I’d guess you’d hit around a 15k-22k annual merit with your current profile. Personally, I’d apply normal EA, because I’m not a fan of the Single Choice concept. Especially since you have a strong profile anyways, as FC said.
