Hey I just wanted to see my possible chance for acceptance at the Mendoza School of Buisness.
My Unweighted GPA is a 3.92/4.00 and my weighted gpa is a 4.57/5.00
All honors classes and will have taken 8 APs by graduation.
SAT I: 1860 (Plan to retake in October)
Math (690) CR (610) Writing (560)
ACT: 28
Class Rank: Not sure, maybe top 15% (my school is the top ranked public school in the state)
Not sure which one to take
Extracurriculars: Varsity Tennis (3 Years); Captain, Youth Church Leader (2 years), Chess Club (2 years), I know my excurriculars are weak.
Volunteer: Help tutor and teach kids on how to play tennis through middle school outreach program, volunteer at trash clean ups in the neighboring river, volunteer at a food drive to help give to those in need.
Jobs: Cashier at grocery store for 2 years; picnic event coordinator for 2 years
I think it is a low reach. Your tests are definitely below what they’re looking for, but that is not the only deciding factor. Everything else seems on par with an average to slightly below average applicant. Make sure you sell yourself to them on why Notre Dame is fit for you.
The only real problem I see could be in your choice of major. Business is the most impacted of any major for this school, probably because its the No 1 undergrad program in the country. They recently put a “two step acceptance” for Mendoza: first you must be admitted, and then you have to be pre-approved for entry into Mendoza after your freshman year (First Year of Studies). No other major requires this. I believe they have capped each class in Mendoza at 500 of approximately 2000 students per year. This impact would make them look at your application with more rigor because they can accept so few into the Business school. It is possible to be accepted to ND for another major, and transfer in, but I think I read that hardly more than 10 students per year successfully do this. Good luck, and GO IRISH!!
Thanks for the reply! I have it definitely as a reach. I’m hoping to take the SAT in October and boost my CR+M to 1400. So if I didn’t get accepted into Mendoza the first year I could be undecided and then join my sophomore year?
@mavsrule41 In theory, it is possible. But admission is very low if you are switching into business-related degrees. I’d apply straight away for business and hopefully you will make it. If you don’t, know that getting in will be difficult. http://firstyear.nd.edu/ Go check out the FYS page. It has stuff on what your first year would be like. If you haven’t already, also read through the Admissions and home sites to see what Business and other majors are like.
