I am applying for CBS as my first option and CLA as my back up and I am instate. I applied with the Gopher App and my app was completed around October 12th.

GPA: 3.54 Unweighted My school has a higher grading scale than most schools for example a 95% is an A and a 92% is a B
Close family members died which took an affect on my freshman year grades which I wrote about in the App.
AP Classes: 4 AP’s taken including senior year
Honors Classes: Around 4 or 5 taken
Extracurriculars: 4 Years of Varsity Basketball(Captain), National Honors Society, Business Club(President) , Math Club, Robotics, 2 years of Football, 2 years of Track(Captain),

Work Experience: Work in the summer everyday for at least 3 hours
My brother is also a 3rd year undergrad student at the University of Minnesota in CSE
You are fine for at least CLA. Does your school rank and, if so, does it rank based on your % marks or your letter grade? You can see that a 93% is a 4.0 and a 92% a 3.0 so letter grades may not be a relevant indicator of academic strength. If your school doesn’t rank and doesn’t provide the % marks you might try to see if a HS counselor can provide some sort of internal unofficial ranking to UMN via a rec. letter. It won’t go in their official stats, of course, but it will provide the admissions committee some additional insight regarding your GPA.
@vvfor3 interestingly, we have almost identical stats, aside from cla being my first choice! Mine said it was complete around the first week of october, and though I’m out of state, I talked to an admission officer and he said to estimate my decision by november, (as well as saying I have a good chance of acceptance), so maybe think by that time. However, it is rolling so you may hear in February!
@dannydevit0 Nice, I think if one of us gets in we both probably will.I heard that many people who applied before mid Sept have heard back already so I’m expecting mine to be in November. Good Luck! Please update if you receive your decison
Actually, not sure how many have heard back - I’ve read in the past that the majority of application decisions take place later in the fall or even early January. The postings seem to be fewer than this time last year but that may be either because there are just more applications (so it’s taking longer) or people actually have other things going on in their life and are too busy to post. And I’ll bet there are a whole bunch of applicants out there who still have yet to hit “submit”.
The rolling process applies to decisions. Therefore, the strongest applicants are hearing back first. UMN also tends to send out a lot of OOS decisions in the early part of the application. That’s why we are seeing a lot of OOS postings with obviously strong stats at this point and why we are seeing acceptances after a couple weeks when others might have applied back in August or Sept. (or even July). I would imagine, as well, that if the applicant were an NMSF they would be accepted very quickly regardless of when they applied.
@vvfor3 my D2 applied to CLA (first choice) and has stats similar to yours (3.64 uw GPA and a 1960 SAT which converts to about a 29 ACT). Not sure when she’ll hear back but it wouldn’t surprise me if you heard first given your OOS status (we are in-state).
